A buddy of mine just got a 2001 jeep wrangler yesterday. He showed up at my house and we were checking everything out when I look underneath the front bumper and see a massive oil stain/drip from his oil pan. hopefully it's just a gasket but damn 10k for a jeep that needs a bit of work (some other things needed replacing...clutch, and probably the alternator) just doesnt sound like a good deal to me. That being said make sure to double check everything. People look at me like I'm crazy when I have my head in every nook and cranny I can find, but hey gotta know what you're buying before you buy it.

From someone who's had EXACTLY what you want...spend the money to put your truck back to stock.

A stock taco is about the best DD for someone who doesn't want a car. You have one of the more desirable models. I know how you feel, you got your mind around how awesome it'd be to have a capable jeep to drive every day and wheel. It's not all roses. I put one of the best lift kits on this one and it was still a PITA to DD. 16 mpg AT BEST. Typically much less. Power got sapped. Things made odd noises. It's definitely a sacrifice and to me, the payoff wasn't worth it. I still have my wrangler when I want to get into the rocks but for the kind of wheeling you should be doing in a DD, a TRD taco is going to take you everywhere a lifted XJ will. I'm on my 7th vehicle since I sold that jeep to buy my first taco 4 years ago, so I know all too well the feeling of the grass being greener. Stick with the taco.

    Here's my old XJ:

Trust me dude, keep it on 31's. Even on 33's, you are probably going to get to the point where you are sick of throwing gas in the thing. When you are making $25 an hour or more and can throw some money around more, then do whatever you think will pull the tail in for you. A stock taco is still a bad ass little truck, especially with the e-locker. I'm 25 and seriously glad I have a bone stock truck. Gets me to work reliably, is really good on gas, and can still get my off-road fix in while my jeep is down. Best of both worlds.

Nope. Your stuck at 3" or you can drop a few grand for a 6" drop bracket. Why does it need to be "crazy"? Can't it just be clean yet beastly? Look at jlee's build it's fawking badass and yet it's not "crazy" imo it's one of the most functional ifs offroad vehicles on this site that is still a dd which is pretty much what you need.

had a 97 cherokee sport for 6 years... randomly caught fire last summer and burnt up after my sister drove it. it was a great car but i'm going to have to give this one to the tacoma. Just more dependable and more fun to have the bed than just a trunk

mine is beyond reasonable. yes its badass and i love it but its just not the best truck to travel in( shakes at 60 mph). and the lift thats on it kinda sucks.

if it was a nice lift like fabtech i would take the body lift off and keep it. but it has a shity trailmaster lift with the 2nd dary strut.

You don't wanna go above 3 inches if you want it to be a commuter. Im holding out for jeep to come out with a gladiator or j8 that may never happen.

    is this a myth???

thats there is some coilovers and struts(lift) that is 3.5. but if you crank the coilovers and struts up that high that you will go through cv joints way fast?
