Oh good, I can finally forget the new names for bases. Hopefully they didn't throw out the old signage.

 

That extra duty BS used to really piss me off. Most airman serving ED would get sent to my Flight to work off their time. On one level it was extra manpower to get the work done, and you could have them do the least fun parts of the job. BUT on the other hand it really pissed me off because my daily job so highly thought of by all the other CCs out there that they would send their misfits to do my job for punishment. Like we weren't being punished every other day we worked without the misfits just for joining the AF. Well

We generally had misfits washing and waxing vehicles.

 

We sent ours to SF's...or they had to vacuum the cracks in flightline

 

I would have had them digging trenches and filling sandbags to build bunkers and then fill in the trenches. Though vacuuming the flightline also sounds like a reasonable punitive task.

I can't help but translate it to e.. dysfunction these days, lol.

That said, there's really two types - punishment, or extra training for having messed up on the job. For the punishment types, we just sent them over to the BEQ since they're also typically on restriction as well, so they helped out the crews doing cleaning/etc, while doing their time. Those were usually the ones on their way out (or the occasional alcohol incident last chance by someone who was otherwise good). The 'messed up a job' guys usually stuck around (while on ship) with a watch section or their immediate supervisor.

 

This dude will enlist and skip infantry school, ranger school, SF selection and go straight to Delta.
