That's why a feller needs a half dozen of these... keep one original and mess with the rest.

Left the house early this morning and popped into Safeway. They got a restock but someone snagged all the soup and TH.

Still one of the better restocks since the first of the year.

That’s how it all starts. It’s just one little car, it doesn’t take up any room.

My wife just recently asked me “why do I keep finding those cars around” and “I see you buy one when we go to the store now”. I just reply… it’s for a friend…

Okay…this is an obnoxious question, but someone educate me on this please.

Why do people hide cars? I get the idea of coming back later to get them, but aren’t these things all sub-$2.00 retail (pardon my ignorance, I haven’t bought one retail since I was a kid). Maybe I’m being obnoxious, but if you can’t swing $4-6 for a couple of cars, maybe you shouldn’t be buying Hot Wheels?

If someone could ELI5, hugely appreciated.

I think someone that works at the store hides them for friends. Maybe to come by and pick them up later. Like you said, if I can’t afford to buy a $2 car why am I looking at them.

I was collecting before I started dating my now wife. So she knew I was buying them here and there. She didn’t realize how many I had until we got married and bought a house together. I hung most of them up in cases in the garage. I would buy one or two here and there and was putting them in a tub which takes a little bit to fill and just start another when it was full. Now that I started a hot wheels room she can really see how many I have.

    That makes way more sense.

I had paired my 1/18s waaaay down before I bought my house. I had a single 12-car case and three singles, with maybe 6-8 in storage.

Now I’ve got 82 on display and a few overflow. I’ve basically taken over my cellar, which luckily is fine, but I know there’s a lot of eye rolling to be had.

Mostly stock, just getting it to my liking, just happy to have had the taco and now my 4Runner.
Was anyone looking for this one, picked it up earlier on the off chance as I haven’t seen it in this area in a hot bit. IMG_8580.jpg

You’ve brought logic into the conversation. Please explain to me why I find packages where they have clearly stolen the car out of them. No, I’m not talking about the kid who APE handled the package to open it. The one where they’ve slyly cracked the plastic to remove the vehicle and tucked the package behind other stuff. Even the “sets” where one car is removed…

EDIT: now we’re getting into theft from Dollar Treefiddy.

The only logic to the thefts is this...

    People are dumb.

Can’t say logic, really just my guess why they hide them. The more hard to find ones or treasure hunts. As far as cards or sets with cars stolen out of them. I’m going to guess a kid. I can’t see an adult risk getting caught stealing over a $1 or $2 but there are some cheap pricks out there so you never know.

So I stopped in DT periodically as it is nearby the daughters childcare. I asked an employee if their truck had come as he was stocking the cosmetics. He said yes as his manager came up the aisle. I inquired if any hotwheels had come in. The manager said "yeah let me go check i think I saw toys on a cart". She disappears for a bit and then comes back out with another employee and I overhear him say "who is asking?"

I came around the aisle and she said "we are not putting them out til tomorrow".

So I stop in this morning after dropping off the kiddo. Offer to put them out from another employee they inquire from a manager and she walks around the corner and says sorry we haven't gotten to them yet. Stop back by this afternoon and still nothing.

Last week I asked a gal at Target if they had any team transports as there was only a single Plymouth hanging but not much else. She said "we have guys who we call when a new shipment comes in if they are not here when we open the day they go out".

I couldn't believe she actually said this. It's wild that someone is paying off retail employees for hotwheels info.
