No schools nearby? Prison doesn't have bleachers? ('cause I know you have a grinder :p) :anonymous:

Not sure what your actual design is, but I used some 1x2 aluminum extrusion for my 4Runner roof rack, and I bet if you stood that on edge, it'd be stiff enough to be a structural crossmember. Worked great for the RTT and wasn't even on edge.

Actually, I've still got two 48" sticks if you're interested...though not sure when you'd get out here to pick them up.

    20250213_225602428_iOS.jpg

That span for TT (or trex, which is 16", though you really want to support Trex every 12" to prevent warping in warm conditions) is for a no-load installation (i.e. only intermittent foot traffic). Neither is structural.

Edit: although, as I read again, maybe Zane is looking to fill the whole space as a floor... in which case... MDO plywood and a crossmember would be a good weather resistant way to go.

Frame is done and important marking and outlining is done as well, can build this off the truck now I think. So time to put the bed back on.

Frame set to the side for a second pending a shop reorganization/cleanup and the integration of some new tooling.

Prison doesn't have any bleachers I can get to easily enough haha. But yeah I am looking to fill the floor part of the frame using the bleacher extrusion going width-wise to keep the span short. Bleacher extrusion is ideal for its high strength and low weight but I can probably find a substitute.

I've used aluminum stair tread for projects at work, it's a little pricy but holds a ton of weight for what it is.

It is flat but there are sharper treads on top. Probably not an issue for what your doing.

Another option is the fiberglass tread plates, they are 4x8 or 4x6 size and very sturdy. It's terrible to cut with anything other than a waterjet but works great.

I could probably make that work too with a dust mask and our chop saw. Not a bad option and the widths available out of the box are right in one dimension already.

That's the best way to cut it, good respirator and an abrasive blade on your saw.

Drove the truck with the quiet exhaust for the first time this evening. Holy shit, it is way quieter than I had imagined it could be. I can hear my drivetrain again, the transmission and engine mechanical noise is pleasant compared to the shitty V6 trumpet that used to mask it. Now when you're in it it has a distinct sound but man can you hear all the turbo stuff happening. It feels like Toyota designed it as a turbo engine now, it's quiet but has a lot of spool noise, responsive as hell, and fun to drive.

Aired out the tent and checked some wiring, also test fit the new set of wheels and fresh 35s. Pretty stoked on the wheels actually, truck is just old enough to pull off the retro rims.
