There is absolutely nothing wrong with the display, but rather it was something about the design of the display that caused it to appear red in some shots…

Amanda (@Stitchgirl90) isn't really on TW that often anymore, but she gave me the okay to tell this story...

So, as everybody knows, I left the nursing home on good terms but then a stroked out elderly man attacked my truck and I was trespassed from the property even though I didn't do anything; I gave two weeks notice the day before Halloween in 2024 and my last day was November 13th. Amanda wanted out of that shithole too, so she went looking for a job that would keep her afloat until she found one that she really wanted. She applied at a temp agency called OneSource, and was placed with a company called Quad/Graphics; I have been driving past Quad/Graphics for years without realizing it, and I assumed they were local until I did some research and discovered that they were a nationwide company based in Wisconsin. More on that later...

Amanda got confirmation that she'd gotten this job like a week before Thanksgiving; I remember because she took my truck to Quakertown for her drug test while I was working for UPS and thus didn't need my truck. On Thanksgiving night, the incident that stemmed from me blocking a crosswalk while picking up Amanda took place. On Friday, which was Amanda's day off, I drove her to the nursing home and waited in the truck without incident while she gave two weeks notice. During the Thanksgiving incident, I forgot to put the truck in park when I jumped to block one of the assholes from taking pictures of my license plate; I caught the truck before anything bad happened, but Amanda hadn't buckled her seatbelt yet, and she hit her head hard on the passenger grab handle when I hit the brake pedal. It was discovered two days later that she had a concussion, and I still feel awful about this, though she doesn't blame me in the slightest. So, I took her to the nursing home on Sunday to hand in her doctor's note. By pure bad luck, the wife of the guy who'd had a stroke was there filling out an incident report and overheard Amanda telling a coworker (I believe a few keys words like truck, boyfriend, and crosswalk may have attracted her attention). This crazy bitch flipped out on Amanda, and when I called Amanda to find out what was taking so long, she told me that she now had to give a statement; I parked the truck, and my plan was to hang out there until Amanda was done, but then Amanda told me that I had to come in and give a statement. I initially refused, but ultimately relented. I thought things went okay, but 30 minutes after we left the nursing home, I got a call from an officer with the Horsham Township PD saying that I was trespassed from the property.

Well, Amanda didn't feel like being dropped off on Horsham Road and walking all the way up to the nursing home in the winter weather, and she was also quite livid at how they'd threated me when I did absolutely nothing wrong. We worked for a company called Sodexo, which was contracted by the nursing home to run the kitchen and dining rooms. Amanda said that she was done, and that was that. She left on good terms with the Sodexo people, and it's a moot point because the nursing home wasn't paying its bills, which resulted in Sodexo laying off the remaining employees and cancelling the contract. By the way, the nursing home where I worked for five months is called Horsham Center for Jewish Life. I really hope that the goddamn place goes out of business!

Anyway, so Amanda left the nursing home before her two weeks were up, but she neglected to tell me a few key details about her new job at Quad/Graphics. The most important detail was that her shift was 12 hours, from 7am to 7pm. She insisted that she could handle it; I would drive her to work, go home and sleep for a couple more hours, and then I would drive to meet the UPS driver for my job. On days that I didn't work, I would sleep; I would then pick her up at 7pm. The shift in itself wasn't the worst part; she got four 30-minutes breaks. She was never given a set schedule, and would be notified by text message the night before whether or not she was working...

There were no 8-hour shifts or 10-hour shifts; 12-hour shifts were the only option. When I dropped Amanda off at 7am, there would be hordes of people leaving who'd worked the 7pm-7am shift, and it honestly looked apocalyptic. What was particularly annoying was that Amanda could have applied directly to Quad/Graphics and worked directly before them, but she was stuck as a temp through OneSource until she was there for 90 days.

On December 26th, I believe, I mistakenly set my alarm for 5:45am instead of 5:45pm; I slept until 7:10am...



Amanda has become like a member of the family over at my neighbor's house, they pay her to babysit their kids and do other stuff around the house, and she routinely stays over because the kids love her so much; Amanda had spent the night at my house for Christmas and was supposed to stay over again, but the neighbor kids wanted her to stay over. She called and texted me, but didn't bother to walk three houses over to my house and ring the doorbell because "she didn't want to wake up my parents"...

I got her to work by 7:30, and they weren't mad. I went back to bed, and woke up well past 12pm to a text from Amanda saying she'd been benched because she a series of mini seizures. My girlfriend is epileptic, and hasn't had a grand mal seizure in over a decade, but she has these absentee seizures from time to time. A coworker recognized the symptoms and was given the option of going to the hospital by ambulance or having me come get her. This was not the type of seizure that requires a hospital visit or driver's license suspension, but they understandably wouldn't let her work. This happened probably 30-45 minutes before I woke up and read the texts; I drove to get Amanda, and she had to go to the hospital in order to get cleared to work again. Luckily, she has insurance; I drove her to the hospital, and she spent like 7 or 8 hours in the hospital waiting to be seen. She was cleared to work within a few days, but Quad/Graphics never called her back in...

The temp agency, OneSource, handled everything. Apparently, this company has such a hard time getting enough people to work for them directly that they get temp workers from numerous agencies. One time, after the December 26th incident, they sent OneSource the wrong employee list and they only realized this when none of the temps showed up for work that day. OneSource said that Amanda was still employed, but that things had slowed down at Quad after the holidays, and priority was being given to employees that had been there longer; Amanda had been looking for a permanent job since December and finally found one. She was scheduled to start work at her new job on February 3rd, she had last worked the day after Christmas in 2024, and she still hadn't heard from OneSource or Quad/Graphics by the middle of January 2025. She called the woman at OneSource and told like it was, that she needed to make money and she found another job. She didn't even bother to give two weeks. I believe that her seizures had a part to play in this, but whatever...

It was a shitty job, and she still lets out profanities every time we drive past the building!

 

Not shocked re the lack of balls. I've had a few Alpine HUs but never any other gear so can't comment on that.

You should try some death metal on those stereos man!!

 

When I get my hands on a rental car for 20 minutes or more like I did the Wagoneer, I will do that. Hands down, the shittiest factory stereo of all the rental vehicles I've driven was in a Volkswagen Jetta. The most surprisingly decent I've heard was in a Mitsubishi Mirage. The Audis, Benzes, and BMWs have the best factory stereos, and the otherwise boring American vehicles also seem to have decent stereos...

 

Perhaps Slayer or Danzig..or maybe some Municipal Waste if you veer towards thrash..

 

"stock stereo showdown" would be something of interest I can subscribe to.

 

I do believe that some Mitsubishi Mirages come with a factory Rockford Fosgate system, but not the base models in the Enterprise fleet. It still can’t hold a candle to what I’ve got in my truck, but for a factory system in the cheapest car in America, it was pretty damn good in my opinion! I still would not buy one of these lackluster commuter appliances though…

 

The Mirage is a weird vehicle in many respects, including the steering column that tilts but doesn’t telescope. Also, the heater control maxes out at 89°F, which is a rather random number in my opinion. Usually, they go up to like 90°F before the display reads “HI”…

A Jeep Grand Cherokee came back absolutely trashed yesterday…

After cleaning the Jeep…

 

I forget what car this backup/front view camera was in…

 

Someone trashed an Audi, smoking in it and bringing it back with damage. It came yesterday from another branch, and they are still in the process of sorting it out…
