@PilotBoy352 I've been reading through this and it seem awfully strange that the engine would just seize like that with no prior warning. Have you examined the possibility that something with the flywheel, clutch or transmission might be locking it up. What kind of noises did you hear as it was coming to a halt?

    BTW, Congrats on your engagement.

He said on a trip the week before it was “smoking like a diesel” with white smoke. Coolant was getting in somewhere.

Sorry, I must have missed that. That would certainly explain it then. Probably a damaged cylinder/piston.

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
This is just their way of saying "no thank you." You'll have to give it to them for them to want it.

if they're not making 40-60 cents on the dollar, then it's not going to be worth their while. By the time they pay one of their guys to do the swap and salvage the info, it still won't look appealing on their lot, so they're going to end up flipping it to some small dealership to make it their problem (and they have a margin to make, too).

Just a lot of work when all they care about your used car for, is a quick buck.

Edit to say that my payback range could be way off. Haven't touched the used car market in a long time, so I just pulled that ol' figure out of my ass. Bottom line, they want to make money without spending it.

Yeah, it would be fine if they hadn't called me 8 times since then asking if I would consider their offer, being completely serious. Idk what is going through their heads

It just stalled, it felt exactly like me having it in gear and letting the clutch go. This was even to the point where I had to check if I was in gear, but I wasn't it was in neutral. The transmission still goes into every gear, but obviously not while it is spinning.

I think one of the many problems with dealerships is they give their worst salesmen access to their data base

ABC Nissan was calling and hassling my wife about "An important message about your car" about once a week, for a car we had sold years ago.

I eventually had to threaten their sales manager with legal action to make it stop

I wouldnt buy a damn thing from them after that

They’re both the same. Don’t be afraid of red. If a 1/2” impact won’t free it then heat will. I use so much red I don’t understand the fear. It’s not permanent

You're why I have to write corrective actions and 8D's :rofl::rofl::rofl:

When you put red on a tiny weak bolt it's gonna explode long before the red yields, so you need to know someone was using red ("It's fine I used blue loctite from the blue toob!") and heat it with a torch (if you can heat it with a torch, it's probably already painted and you're going to give it a nice toasty marshmallow finish) and you have one shot before it snaps. Now your 800 dollar painted weldment is munted because you can't get at the blind hole in the machine shop either to drill it out because there's no way to fixture a whole ass seat back.

And then Billy Bob says "it's fine I got this! I can drill that out by hand!!!" And he imediately misses and walks the drill down the side of the snapped off bolt.:bananadead::anonymous::annoyed:

It's a brand thing. Permatex corporate colors are blue and Henkel (loctite) corporate colors are red. I think they may have caught on in recent years that the average dude getting paid Wendy's nugget dunker money to assemble aerospace and defense parts can't be assed to tell the difference unless red is red is red and blue is blue is blue.

I too cringe at the thought of 8D’s. Our corporate loves them but then won’t approve anything because they don’t have common sense and are disconnected from the problem.

Im not saying you shouldn’t use the correct one for the correct application. But with a knowledgeable user, you could interchange them and get the desired results.

Maybe just to make people cringe later I’ll soak a m6 stainless bolt in red and send it home into an aluminum block with the ugga dugga machine.

Alright! I got a quote from Engine Masters Automotive in mesa, they said that they can get a used engine in for $6,999.99 out the door. He found one that was just pulled with 24,000 miles on it (with the vacuum pump). He said it'll be another $800 to do the clutch on top of that. I think I will go this route, as I really do like this truck a lot.

Is there anything else I should have them do while it is all pulled apart?

He was only able to get new parts, so it was gonna cost out the ass to get them from Toyota. He doesn't do engines very often at his shop as it eats a whole bay for a long time. He said that he didn't have a line on a reputable used engine source.
