The summer of 1980. Record high temperatures. I remember going water skiing on Black Friday and the lake water still felt warm. Everything turned upside down that summer.

I stayed in the computer room as much as possible helping students debug their compile errors.

 

I get at least a dozen posts from some gals that look like Hooters waitresses wanting me to help them. You guys know the posts.

The one thing I haven't seen is a post that says I'm 7 months pregnant and looking for a man who would make a good baby daddy.

I get it nearly perfect on the first go around with just a phone picture

I will use a Printer scanner sometimes if its intricate small shit (exhaust flange, intake flange).

But Picture Canvases work great... right now I am trying to master surface/forms as I for sure want to make a DIY widebody for my MR2, and may decide to make one for the truck too, but the ADV Fiberglass seems like it may be the winner

Wanna do a pattern for me?

I just wanna learn how you do it to see if it is faster than how I do. I bought a tacoma intake plenum gasket to draw into a file to have an aluminum flange cut for the intake project.

 

That's smart, it's flat already and easy to pattern

A buddy asked me yesterday if I ever take copy of it on the printer - I would think it'd be smarter to scan so all items are proportionate to each other

The way I specifically made yesterday's part was by taking a picture of it in a specific orientation, then placing a canvas to trace in that same orientation -





Reason being is that, I can just trace said item easily. Using the X axis as my "floor" though I can then draw the exact angle needed for each side - the left side was 72 degrees and the right side was 65 degrees with the hole being exactly 1" below the radius edge.

So basically, trace item. Use known dimensions for obtaining specific proportions, and I'm left with something +99% accurate.

In my case, the bottom left corner is the tiniest bit smaller than the actual piece. It's off by less than I can actually measure, but you can feel the difference with your finger. Way more accurate than it needs to be per the customer as these are motor bike parts he welds on.

Took maybe 2-3 minutes to measure, then another 2-3 minutes drawing, and doing the CAM work all in one.
