Yes. Some never had one and some lost their license due to stupidity.

You say she couldn’t pass the written test.
Seems if she couldn’t pass a “written” test, she may not be the best candidate for military services?

I guess my question should be, is there a minimum standard for intelligence to join the Army?
I mean, if you can’t pass a basic DMV written test, I think the military might not be the best place for you.

I believe the Airforce ASVAB is a minimum of 31.
Does the Army have such a testing standard?

My neighbor was in the Navy.
He never had a license when he joined.
And yet, he still crashed a motorcycle THROUGH a bar window in Hawaii.

It was fitting, he was forced into the Navy.
He was given the choice of jail or service.

He’s dead now, bless his sole.
That was a man who lived a wild life, but was a good man at heart.

Requirements changed from year to year. If they were overmanned higher test scores were needed. Undermanned lower scores. Air force used to require high school diploma. No GED allowed. Other services allowed GED.

I suppose there is a job for everyone.
But needless to say, I hope some aren’t the ones making “important” decisions p.

I’m through now. As I don’t want this to sound as if I’m bashing Barb.
I am not. She was probably a very good woman deep down.

I was more curious as to standards. I’m thought.
Sorry to have changed the subject. May the woman rest in peace.

You would be surprised about driving tests. CA made theirs quite difficult. They told me at the DMV that a lot of people fail. Was a shock when I went in blind, didn’t even expect to get ‘re-tested’ yet again.

It is quite difficult to get rejected from the Army. Unless you get DQ’d for medical reasons or such.

Entry into Marine Corps requires defining a favorite crayon flavor (@ColoradoTJ :p).

And Charlie, sorry to hear about the loss.

So, we went to Barb's apartment today and met Amanda's grandparents there. The apartment did not smell bad at all, but Barb's two dogs did exactly what you'd expect dogs to do when locked indoors for a few days...

    :crapstorm:

Based on info from neighbors who knew Barb well, and were present when the police kicked in the door and when the body was removed, and it would appear that she passed on the either the 15th or the 16th (Saturday or Sunday, respectively). Amanda last talked to her on the 11th, and a friend of hers reported last talking to her on the 13th). We talked to the Chester County Coroner's office, and found out that Barb was found sitting on the floor in front of her bed, rather than in her bed. Barb's friend and neighbor was present when the police broke in, and reported that the smell of death hit them when the door was kicked in. It was not horrific, but you could definitely tell that someone was dead in the apartment; I say again that the apartment did not smell like death by the time we were there. The body was reportedly discovered and taken away on Tuesday (February 18th), and Amanda determined that if the apartment smelled like a dead body, she must have been gone for a few days. The apartment has electric baseboard heat that does not work well, because the apartment was flooded in a massive rainstorm and the heaters were never replaced. As a result, the temperature has to be turned up really high to get anything even resembling warmth, and it costs even more to run than electric heat usually does. As cold as it has been, Amanda believes that her mother had the heat cranked, and this without a doubt sped up the decomposition process compared to summertime when she would have had the A/C cranked and her body would have been preserved.

Anyway, the coroner is saying anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks for the toxicology reports to come back, but were told that nothing concerning stood out to either the police or the medical examiner. We were told by the woman at the coroner's office that it was most definitely NOT a suicide. Based on the description of the scene given in the report, it would appear that she had some sort of medical emergency that led to her becoming disoriented and/or unable to stand, and plopping down on the floor in front of her bed. She was reportedly seated upright on the floor in front of her bed, with her back against the bed. We just talked to the coroner's office a little over an hour ago and were under the impression until then that she'd been found in her bed under the covers, indicating that she'd died in her sleep. Amanda last talked to Barb on the phone on February 11th, and the last text messages that Barb sent out on her cell phone were on February 13th. I am about as far from a doctor as one can get, but it sounds like she had a heart attack or a stroke while standing in her room, and just happened to be in a really convenient location. Brain aneurysms also run in her family; Barb's own mother died from a brain aneurysm in 1987, at the age of 42. Regardless of how she died, it sounds like she had a medical issue of some sort and plopped down as the result of becoming confused or incapacitated in the last few moments of her life (but she was still alive), or literally dropped dead and just happened to fall in a really convenient manner. As stated above, she was found on the floor directly in front of her bed, with her back against the bed.

Barb will be greatly missed, but one thing I am not going to miss is driving to Coatesville. The place is a shithole, and thankfully we only have to come back one more time to get a reach-in freezer and a curious cabinet that would not fit in the truck on this trip…
