Good question since sales numbers for those are neck and neck. Then again Nissan only has a few months left to survive so they may not have the best track record of good decision making.

To the title of this thread: yes.

If you look at the last 35 years of Toyota, the overall quality is slipping.
However, it's mostly because of complexity. Way more individual, complicated parts in modern vehicles.

We have a 2020 Toyota Corolla that left my wife stranded at work at 18k miles. Electronic water pump circuit failure. Turned out to be a smoked relay.
Really, Toyota? Why over complicate things? What's wrong with the belt driven water pump? Our car became immobilized due to a cheap relay unable to handle the 30A load of the electronic water pump.

And then there's the Tundra.....'nuff said.

Personally I think the Tacoma will be a good truck overall. Better than the Tundra, for sure.

If she likes your truck, then why not getting a 3rd gen Tacoma for your wife... that way, you two don't have to share 1 vehicle... in case you go somewhere and your wife go shopping for her needs by herself.

My ex did the same thing, she loved my truck a lot... she never go alone.. I must go with her or she cant drive without me. If she wants to go alone, she drives her slow ass car.

No hood struts. No mirror or seat memory with key recognition. However, there is key recognition for the center infotainment display where it remembers your settings and radio stations, etc. Nothing more.

Sounds like you do want a higher trim. I am perfectly happy with the way my SR5 is optioned. My 2019 TRD off road with tech did not have power seats.

You could have been left stranded by a bad belt tensioner bearing like I have been in my ‘99.

Everyone has different feed back from all brands . I don’t know what the variable is but for me
No go for GM , period . When I look at a new vehicle I don’t even look at or consider there stuff . I despise them as a company. But obviously some people like them or otherwise they would be out of business. ( I can only hope ) lol

    Seriously?
    At 18k miles?
Why not just buy any other vehicle brand if a Toyota could snap a belt at 18k?

Any brand can have one off problems. Electric water pumps are amazing because they decouple cooling from rpm. The engine’s current RPM doesn’t always correspond with ideal coolant flow demand.

I can't speak for other 2017's, but mine has been great for the last 9 years, 65k miles. Only minor issues.

    1. Battery leaked at caps, was replaced with a Toyota truestart free under warranty
    2. rear brake light tsb
    3. hvac blower wheel stripped out, was replaced with updated tsb part

Yeah, that makes sense. I thought there was a gerbil wheel in the water pump.

You know what else is amazing? YETI coolers.

Ford has always been my last choice, I've had a 23 F-150 for almost 2 years now. So far no recalls, and the only issue I have had was a rear ext cab rear door with an intermittent window issue it likes to stay down. I did receive an OTA update about recalibrating the window stop position. I haven't rolled the window down since then, but it gets power. Where it wasn't always getting power before. Not that it's good problem, but no ther issues. Which isn't saying much about a vehicle that's still under warranty. Today I would choose a Ford over Ram or GM but I'm looking at that as an HD customer where Toyota has no option.

I have a 24 Tundra so far it has been trouble free and hands down the funniest truck i have ever driven. As far as engine issues and other problems we will see as time goes on. I liked my 21 Tacoma better but I didn't like the way it pulled my little trailer and I knew a bigger trailer was in my future so when my lease was up I bought the Tundra.

All brands have issues; some more than others. Individual results may vary - widely. I've owned too many different vehicles over the years, and some have outperformed my expectations, and others were a total POS with constant problems, regardless of brand or model. Part of why I bought a Toyota was my expectation with their reputation for quality that I'll have fewer problems that I would have with other brands. We'll see, but so far, the truck has been good other than a squeaky drivers door and rattling door panels up front. Neither issue has yet to annoy me enough to warrant a separate trip to the dealer - I'll just have them addressed at my next service interval.
