Should I sell my taco?

So I have 2003 Tacoma with 150,100 miles on it. It’s an awesome truck but recently I’ve been debating on either keeping it and just drive it into the ground or selling it and getting a 3rd gen Tacoma or maybe a 4 runner. Just want something that’s a bit more roomier and has more power than what my taco has. Looking to get some pros and cons feedback from everyone. Thanks

    I had a 1st gen. I sold my 1st gen. I regretted it.

Looks like you’ve taken care of it. There’s a bunch of ways to add more power or better storage that’s a lot cheaper than buying another vehicle. Just my .02

Yeah I definitely try my best to keep it in good shape and not abuse it. I definitely don’t want to have any regrets in selling it either. I might look into other power options for the truck. Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it.

How much do you want for that truck? I like it. That'll sway my vote either way. The itch to have something new always lingers, but anyone with a few bucks can buy a new vehicle, but you can't replace that one if you regret it.

Go test drive a few newer ones. See if that tips you over the edge. No harm in looking. That said, regret is always possible but you won't know it until you get there, unfortunately.

The other issue (I'm dealing with) is driving it into the ground. At what point is it "over." I kept saying this and now I have sunk $3k in a year to a truck that runs great but needs frame work. It's only another $1500 !! lol. Finding "the ground" is not easy. The work gets expensive and the truck becomes psychologically unreliable.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
So the g1 is paid for. And it truly does 100% of the truck stuff a g3 does.

Your really not going to notice the "extra room" , and unless you do the OT tune on your g3 it too will underwhelm you. Truthfully if slightly more room and slightly more power is all you want I'd find someone willing to trade a g2 taco for a g1. That should be an easy trade to make. And I know I'll get shit for this. But that g2 4.0 truly is the best motor any of these trucks has had. The power is in the right spots and you don't have to drive around at 4500 rpm all day.

3rd gens have minivan/sedan motors. Mostly sort of reliable, but expensive to work on and never should have been in a truck. If you're absolutely set on something bigger/newer, a 2nd gen Tacoma or 4 Runner would be the ticket.
Supercharge your 1st gen. Not that expensive, pretty easy to install even including supporting fuel system upgrades.

    My .02 cents

way back when I was avid autoX’er
Was thinking about 1) new Lotus Elise 2) swapping a STI motor into my 2dr Impreza

I started asking every car guy I knew well
“what was your favorite car u owned?….what happened to her?

    10 answers
    All the same
“Was my 67 fastback I had in HS….sold it”
“Was my dad’s square body C10…sold it”
    “Was my M5(before all electronics)…sold”

every one of the people I asked stated
“Wish I never of sold that vehicle “

I took all their answers to heart.

I have mine as a dedicated fun truck, and I love it. It’s definitely my favorite vehicle, but if it were my only source of
Transportation I wouldn’t enjoy it anywhere near as much. There are lots of factors driving such an old truck that make it not an ideal daily if you stress about getting to and from any particular place without worrying about the vehicle every time.
If it’s your only vehicle, and you don’t have the time to fret over it all the time, upgrade. If it’s something you can just enjoy as it is, keep it

Why cant you have both? My cousin has a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road and 3 3rd gen 4Runners, I think him having 3 3rd gens speaks volumes. There is always a minor electrical issue with the TRD.

The first gen is paid off and runs, that's a big reason to keep it lol. Few years ago, I had sold my 02 wrangler with 40k miles because i thought I wanted newer, but the minute it was gone I was full of regret. I think you should hold onto your Taco as long as you possibly can. Maybe pick up a 3rd gen 4runner in addition to your truck.

From the sounds of it you need the money from the sale of the truck so just keeping it as a second vehicle isn't an option, which is what I would've suggested. Honestly, if it isn't your thing and you need more space just sell it. Fine to acknowledge that a truck has drawbacks. But of course, plenty of folks here miss the truck they sold. YMMV.

Since it is Paid For, Do you really need to get rid of it? Keep it and get what you want? Thats what I did. I kept my Tacoma. I wanted a bigger camper, So I got an F-150 and a bigger camper.

I completely agree with 1grfe being a great engine, just get a later model in that generation. Toyota redesigned the head gasket.

I also have a 1stgen tacoma, never selling it. I would regret it for sure.
