2012 TRD Off Rd Access Cab. I bought it almost three years ago with 158k miles. It now has 196k miles and runs like a new one. Other than regular maintenance I have only replaced two tire pressure sensors. It allows the new Silverado to be a Garage Queen. It will get new tires radiator flush, and a couple of other maintenance items at 200k. It should easily make 300k. It does like a new cabin air filter about every 10k miles. What prompted the engine replacement at 220K? Head gasket?

My 2008 Tacoma has over 431,000 miles with original drivetrain and still runs like a new truck.

Yep, found a 2015 engine with 3k miles for $3200
Toyota wanted $4000+ to replace the head gasket on the original and small shops wouldn’t change the gasket on the engine with that many miles

Just hit 200K. I change coolant, trans, diffs, transfer case, power steering fluids every 50K. Spark plugs every 30K. Belt every 60K. Change oil every 5K miles with Mobil 1 and oversized Mobil 1 filter. Always grease driveline with each oil change. Major issues are LCA w/ball joints at 180K, Carrier bearing at 100K, 1 spider joint at 180K. It also goes through the car wash twice a week on average which blast under the frame. I have no rust and live where they have unlimited salt (Great Salt Lake) and use the stuff on roads during the winter. It's spent most of it's life garaged underground at work and in my garage when home.

    This is badass..because 5 lug.

Can't beat that deal for the engine, probably worked out close in dollars even if you paid for the install..what did that run you

Only the price of tools and parts. had all the hand tools already but had to go buy a engine hoist and transmission jack from harbor freight, probably paid around $500 for those. $750 for URD headers that blocked off the holes on the engine block for the secondary air pump

I don’t want to go back and add up all the money I spent.. the more I think about it the more I see the alternatives I could have taken to either save money or buy a wrecked 4th gen v8 4Runner

I'm at 20 year on my 05 base model. Of course it only just rolled 60,000 miles so it's not even broken in yet.

Curious if you got a number to have it done instead and what that came to

Like those wheels, wouldn't really be practical for my area year round but killer truck

Ok, so I'm back peddling on the reliablility of MY 2005 Taco...

At about 190k, the frame around the engine mount perch finally gave.

Then the head gasket leak sealer gave because the truck sat for months while i was preparing to fix the frame.

So, the shittiest year of a Tacoma, went for 190k and 20 years LoL. We'll, arguably, the 2016 trucks might be worse than the 05??

(I keep the frame treated with fluid film, so minimal rust. The head gasket started a small leak at around 170k.)

They aren't as bad as you would think. They are mono block forged so they take hits well. I've only bent two of them and that was hitting a rock at speed that was 4-5" in diameter. The local wheel repair shop was still able to fix the damage and true them back up and it cost me less than trying to import another set from Japan. Of course with the 255/35s I'm running on them I've got a lot more protection than the 225/30s I used to run with them on my other car.

With the snow and salt around here they'd be ruined pretty fast, too nice for that part of the year.

Hey dude, watch out for the 2005 issues, if you aren't already aware of them.

    I had a 2007 AC SR5 4x4 until… well, yesterday.

198,892 miles on it. Engine still ran like a champ despite me just doing the minimum like oil changes every 5k (synthetic) and changing the diff fluids like once every 5 years.

I put some mods into it: 2.5” OME lift with 886’s Nitrochargers in the front/back and Dakar leafs with TC UCAs. Ran 255/75/17 Duratracs for the last 10 years. Added a hitch, trans cooler, 4 & 7 - pin wiring harnesses, Prodigy brake controller - never once used any of the towing stuff. Literally the most action the hitch saw was a HitchSafe.

My problems were that I didn’t understand about greasing zerk screws. Last time I took it in, my UCAs, LCAs, CV boots, et al, were all shot. Alignment was way out of whack and I ended up ditching the Duratracs for some stock tires for the last 6 months. That, and within the last 1.5 years, the frame rust (as well as the leaf springs) just exploded on me.

Thing still fired right up and ran amazingly. But, I have a family now and I needed to get something that someone other than I could drive. (Like how a captain knows how to maneuver his ship, but anyone else who tries will die) And the AC isn’t the best for hauling anything resembling a fully-grown human in the back.

Sadly, traded it in for a 2021 Highlander Hybrid LE for the people-hauling/gas mileage aspects. It’s been just over 24 hours and I desperately want my truck back. But, gotta be responsible.

I had that truck for 15 years and there are a lot of memories linked to it. Toyota forever.

Yeah, every single Toyota truck I've had, then sold, I've regretted. I won't be selling my 2015 anytime soon, and when the time comes I'll regret that too :( For whatever reason Toyota trucks just keep their mechanical integrity better than anything else on the planet, a 20 yr old Toyota still runs and drives very similar to when new versus any other old vehicle I've driven, some were downright terrifying when they get serious miles/years on them.

Fortunately most of the issue are with the V6 or with parts that I've already replaced with while modifying the vehicle. Only one left is the coolant tube under the intake manifold. I'll get around to replacing it with the metal one at some point.
