Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

I had rub until I put 5100's all around...I went 2" notch in Front, spacers in back...little bumps kick my , u know ...offroad not so much...not sure how 1" rides...a lot of posts saying lift don't matter with rubbin, not wanting some bruh to blast this post, however, the 2" in front cleared my rubs...shippin/receiving, not an engineer, but that is what happened...nice white rig...scoop on that hood?

I'm also considering getting an alignment and pushing the caster to 3.5 to get the wheels a little more forward. The rub happens when I'm turning full and compress the shocks.

 

Just got the alignment. The shop was able to get a 3.2 degree caster (factory was 2.2). I can feel the difference in that there is a little more resistance in turning, but that is to be expected. The driveway scrape isn't happening now, so that is a positive. We will see this weekend when I go to Superstition Mountain by the Salton Sea in Southern California and do some trailing.

A report from the weekend: Success! The 33's did great and the truck performed flawlessly! I could feel the difference in having the larger tires. More give in the suspension. Whether is was rocks or soft sand, I got through it all. I had a few rubs with the front of the wheel well on compression and turning. Might go away as the tires wear down was one opinion. We'll see!

 

I think a 1” spacer would make the rubbing on the fender liner worse. As long as you’re not rubbing on the UCA, you should be better off (as far as rubbing fenders), without any spacer.

 

I haven’t read all the pages here, but has anyone regretted going with 255/85/16 tires as far as overall performance, especially on road manners, and power loss now that the “honeymoon” phase is over for those who have ran this size tire for a while? I have to decide by Thursday if I’m gonna go with 255/85/16 Yokohama Geolandar MT. I currently have 265/75/16, which I actually think is the best size overall for our trucks, but you know how it goes, we always want to try new things. Had previously run 285/75/16, but had rubbing issues and didn’t want to chop up my truck. So honest opinions please. I have 2” lift F/R

 

I’m about 1.5k commuting miles into a new set of Falken AT4W. They’re heavy bastards. I noticed a little increase in stopping distance if I wasn’t paying attention initially. Hoping was a bad plan…. I think I lost about 1-1.5 mpg. It’s still a little early to tell because we’ve had some bad weather on these few tanks.

My wife noticed that they seem to roll a little smoother. They are also a little quieter than the outgoing Toyo AT3’s.

They look awesome though, and for a ‘do most things reasonably well’ tire, I’m pretty happy with them.

I’m a little bummed about the mileage, but otherwise happy with the choice.

Just over two yrs on Wildpeak MT's. Many hunting trips in both dry and wet environments, my only complaints are road noise(expected with an MT tire) and 6th gear is worthless. Truck is tuned but stock gearing, gets up goes just fine and don't feel any braking deficits. Will try the AT's next set but completely happy with the performance both on and off road with 255/85's. Lost maybe 1/2 to 1 1/2 mpg's depending on what I'm doing.

 

IMO I just went back to 265’s wild peak ATw4 so glad I did. I ran pizza geolander MT’s 2 times. I was done. For an off-road tire so awesome. For me I wanted better on road manners since I drive my rig a lot.

 

Falkens can be fat for sure, ran 285 70 17 in C load for awhile, KO2 51lbs, Falken AT3w 61lbs. Crazy can get an actual MT tire around the same weight considering the Falken is an AT.

 

A mud terrain of any size has significant trade offs compared to an all-season tire. Noise, rolling resistance, handling, tread life, and ride quality are all impacted negatively. I would not run them if I wasn’t using them for their intended purpose.

I bought 5 wheels for the mud terrains and kept my stock tires for daily driving. Then the pandemic happened, I’m still working from home, drive about 5k miles/year and the mud terrains remain on the truck for the most part, but only because I’m too lazy to swap them out after each off-road outing.

 

Wondering if Bilsteins with my fronts at thr 4th clip will rub? (1.55" lift on DCLB) Really like how this tire size looks with a little poke on em' as well. Also, ya'll get new UCA's with the pizza cutters?

 

I have Bilstein 5100's set @ top clip, 2"...good alignment, +1 offset, and no rubbing, stock ucas on DCSB...

Just lifted my '21 TRD Off-road. Super happy with how she looks, but I am getting some rubbing that needs to be addressed. It sounds like @SoCalTRDOF had similar rub before lifting... Maybe others here could help. I was following this thread and it was my main reference for deciding to go with skinnies.

right now my truck is running:

Toytec Aluma Series BOSS, set to 3" of lift + single add-a-leaf in the rear
JBA UCAs (Recommended as a good alternative by the shop, I ended up going with them but kind of regret not just paying the extra for Toytec's UCAs now)
Falken WildPeak AT4W's - 255/85/R16
OEM TRD Off-road 16" wheels

In the attached photos, I am getting rub on both UCAs... Without knowing all of the measurements, I am somewhat surprised I'm getting rub with so much lift. Maybe I need a caster adjustment with the alignment? given that many have had success putting 33" tires on their trucks without a suspension lift, I didn't anticipate issues when installing JBA + Toytec components. But maybe I'm missing something here... Pretty new to this world... Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

 

Those UCA might be larger than stock. I believe Accutune UCA are less bulky and give more clearance over stock. The amount of lift does not matter. You may be ok with running a 3/4” or 1” Bora wheel spacer. Looks nice though. Would like to see more pics.

 

That's what I'm thinking as well. I'm going to compare them to the stock ones... might be too bulky. Which would suck. But you live and you learn.

Edit: Maybe I'm thinking of the geometries wrong, but thinking about it again... These tires are skinnier than what I was running before, and I know I've seen others running JBA UCAs with OEM wheels/OEM offset... So I'm not sure that totally makes sense.
