Sounds like you have something else going on. I ran stock gears and 295 tires… (solid 33 inch tire) for a long time…. Power lacked a little but nothing like you’re referring to. I am now geared with 4.88’s and love it… But…. Truck was more than drivable, especially street driving, on any incline, etc…. If you’re revving the engine to 3-4K and then it bogs to 600 rpm and stalls, then you definitely got something else happening. Sorry I can’t help or offer more suggestions without more info from you. Is the truck stock? Meaning tire size? Parking brake off? Dumb question but?

From what I've seen, especially towing, 5.29 is better all around. Best way to figure out if you won't mind 5.29 gearing is just limit your self to 5th gear for a trip and see if the increase in engine RPM will bother you at ~80-90mph.

5.29 will be most beneficial on the reverse gear since 2nd gear is used for that as well

But for a stock feel while getting a little bit more torque/power per gear at specific speeds for better drivability, 4.88 will do just fine to increase the general drivability.

As for the lack of power issue, sounds like you are being light on the throttle, there is no way you stalling out an engine going full bore at 5k from a head stop on a most likely wet boat ramp unless it is unloaded and you are not giving it more throttle while letting the clutch in to keep it at 5k. 3k+ RPM is tire spinning territory from a stop. Or you where holding the brakes a bit too hard while trying to take off and not roll back at the same time.

5.29 revolution gears are what you want. 4.88 gears are a thing in the past.

Good thing you chimed in here. OP hasn't logged on in almost 3 years but this is definitely the comment he was waiting on to make his choice.
