From eBay, there are several that fit steel wheels from the 80’s up, o believe they even came on the fj cruisers 17” steelies. The 16” spares steelies will not accommodate these snap in caps.

Do these hold up better as far as rusting, the stock type black lug nuts chip and rust fairly quick?

I want to get my wheels repainted. Is this an expensive project? I’m guessing the oem color is Tacoma silver?

I have a magnetic gray metallic taco with a white smart cap shell I can put on it. I also have two sets of rims. The ones that came with the SR5 Edition, and some FJ steelies I got off of eBay. So I had been thinking about Rhino Lining the shell black because I'm not really thrilled with the way it looks on the truck. But seeing some of the MGM tacos on here got me thinking. So I used a photo editor to paint my black steel rims white. I was expecting it to look dumb, I don't know why but that was my expectation. But I kind of like the way it looks. Would be open to some honest opinions from those here.PXL_20230923_184523968~3.jpg

Actually not bad but would color match the topper.

Not bad at all, I found a magnetic gray cap for $250, at some point I’ll probably wrap it or plastic dip it, but as little as I use it it’s fine for camping trips! I did the white steels for winter, and like em!

Personally, don't like. You have too many colors in play now with the black accents and now all the white.. Maybe try whiting out the black stuff on the computer?

Can’t stand toppers a different color.
So much I passed on used for 800-1200 and spent 3200 for it color matching.

None of that matters at this point. I had bought these rims and tires to run during hunting season. So I put them on at the beginning of deer season, and after driving on them the last three or four months it became apparent I would have to regear if I were going to keep them, and I'm just not ready to do that. Any grade steeper than level ground was 4th gear, any kind of significant grade was third gear and almost 6,000 RPMs. Pulling the ATV and the trailer the whole trip was basically third gear.

2nd Gen. with 17" FJ steelies, purchased from Wheels Express. Powder coated Bengal Silver. Wrapped in 275/70/17 Cooper S/T Maxx. Tried both the silver plastic hub cap, part number 4260B-04010, and the black metal hub cap, part number 42603-35610. I favored the plastic color matched caps. Requires acorn style lug nuts, part number 90942-01021. Also installed are the Apex Design's Rapid Precision Valves. I did experienced clearance issue with the brake calipers, the wheels were just grazing the edge of them. After reading up on other peoples experience with clearance and their fixes, I chose to lightly grind the calipers until the wheels were no longer touching. It's been 8 months and no issues. Yes, I will preemptively say that for some that would be a big no-no to do that, but I did. Also to note, there is a 15lb - 20lb increase in weight per wheel/tire combo from stock.

Those look really good color matched to the truck. I hadn't heard about interference with the calipers before. Would a thin wheel spacer have solved that problem?

I never had clearance issues on a 3rd gen with 17x7.5 fj steels

Yes, I suppose spacers would have also solved the problem. At the time I did this I didn't want to add another piece of hardware and complexity to the equation, plus I was being slightly impatient. I had my grinder on hand at that moment, and not spacers. I have read multiple accounts of people doing this adjustment without issue, and have not seen any cautionary tales which helped to inform my judgement. Long term if it was a mistake, I will share that experience.

This was a couple years ago:

So I got a used set of 33's Dick Cepek Extreme Country 285/75R16's to put on the truck while I got a new set of 35" tires mounted and balanced. Added some Plastidip as the Pro Comp Rock Crawler Series 51 wheels were just black.

New to the thread — How much does it usually cost to get a set of steelies powder coated? Based in SoCal if prices vary regionally
