We've built bunches of these for the Tacoma, and find the Bilstein build guide to be pretty accurate for the most part. 7/9 will yield you approx 1.4" over stock whereas 10/8 will land you around 1.7" over stock. This is assuming you have no additional weight up front. The additional weight of the long bed is negligible in terms of front lift yield.

Also, if you haven't hitched your wagon to the SS folks, we've got what you're looking for on the shelf over here at Hotshot Offroad. We've built dozens for TW folks, and would be happy to help!

So when I installed my 6112's up front I was replacing my worn out TRD Baja Bilstein Suspension. According to Toyota, the Baja/Pro suspensions on 2nd gens gave ~1.75" of lift. I took measurements from hub to fender before hand as a reference. I wanted roughly the same total lift up front to go with the rear lift achieved from my OME leaf springs.

I set my 6112's at 1.8" of lift, so notches 9/7 for a DCSB, with new KYB upper mounts. When I put these on the truck and lowered it back down with the wheels/tires back on it was nose high. Way taller than it was before. Not sure why based on the height chart. Unless it's something with the KYB upper mounts?

Ended up having to move the perches down to 7/5 for 1.2" to come in hub to fender to where I was before. Netted an extra 1/2"-1/4" of height compensating for the lower shock bushing and upper mount sag from the old Baja shocks.

Drive it before measuring. It will drop about 1" after lifting the front w stands.

I took that into account, but still...

After setting them at 7/5, my measurements are still spot on and it's been over a month

New to Tacoma's as of this week and the truck I bought came with a NIB Trail Pro lift from Wheelers...6112's with 600# springs, 5160's in back, and the All Pro standard leaf pack (3"). Current set up is 5100's that are 10 years old with original leafs, i'm sure all of it is tired.

A normal person would just install all this and be happy but i'm having a hard time. The fronts are set at the highest lift, 2.5", which I don't really need or want and I suppose after the rear leafs settle in it should be somewhat level. I could just move the front clips to what I want but then i need a new leaf pack which means I have to try and sell this one, etc, etc. Also, if I install i'm not buying new UCA's until I know these won't work and I'm worried about harshness on the highest clips.

So, should I quit whining and just install everything or go a different route?

Me confused. You start off saying the truck came with "NIB Trail Pro lift from Wheelers...6112's with 600# springs, 5160's in back, and the All Pro standard leaf pack (3")", but then in the very next sentence you seem to contradict this and say "Current set up is 5100's that are 10 years old with original leafs, i'm sure all of it is tired."

I am unclear as to the question.

Note I can only speak for myself on the leaf spring topic, but I got the Icon RXT leaf pack and did setting 2 2.5 years ago. It has not settled at all.

Sorry about that, i'll clarify. I bought my Tacoma this past weekend. 2011 OR DCSB. The previous owner installed the 5100's about 10 years ago. Current leafs are original and need to be replaced.

Included in the sale was the brand new Trail Pro kit, he just never got around to installing it so it came with me. I really want to put the kit on, if for nothing else the new shocks. The leaf pack in the kit is a 3" lift and I'm confused because the 6112's max at 2.5. I assume the rear will settle some, and with a fiberglass cap installed it shoudl aid in leveling the truck...I just don't really want a maxed out front lift with a ton of rake which is why i considered selling the leaf pack and getting an Icon, etc.

I think at this point I'm just going to install it all, and if the rear pack isn't to my liking i'll replace it with something else and adjust the front accordingly.

I can tell you I got less than advertised with my 6112's up front on the 9/7 setting and went up to 650# springs to compensate. No excess weight.

Icon's in rear on option 2 I got MORE than advertised with a shell and no settling after 2 years.

Neighbor kids, I asked opinion, they said it looked like a stink bug before I went to the 650# springs. Now I have about 1" of rake which is what I wanted so it leveled out when camping!

I need help deciding whether to put 650# or 700# coil springs on my 6112s. I'll be installing an SSO slimline bumper and Badland Apex 12k in a month. I currently have an Uptop Overland roof rack and RCI sliders. I'd like to maintain a 2" lift in the front if possible. If anyone has a similar setup and can chime in, that would be appreciated.

According to Bilstein (and my own personal experience) the 700# springs are too much spring for the 6112 shocks. Bilstein has a great podcast explaining the engineering behind this - came out a couple of years ago.

I put on 700# springs when I installed my Pelfrybilt steel bumper and Warn 10K winch (and removed my sway bar.) The truck cornered fine, but did not have a lot of movement in the front suspension. After a year or so, I changed to the 650# springs - night and day difference. Yes, the front end sits a little lower (which provides more droop travel), the ride is smoother, and off-road I can really feel the suspension working. Yes, there is a little more body roll on the street, but it's no big deal.

Oh nice! I know the 2nd Gen weighs a little less than the 3rd gen but I'm hoping I can still get 2" on max clip on 650#. 2" would be preferred but I'll be happy with 1.5". Most of my driving is city and forest road. There's not many obstacle in Michigan that a stock Tacoma couldn't go anyways.

I don't think there is that much difference in weight, and my bumper is probably a little heavier than yours, so it probably evens out. :p

I'm pretty sure you will get the lift you are after.

I sure hope so. I'll report back in two months. Still waiting for the C4 bumper reinforcement bracket (8 weeks) before I can install the bumper and lift. Considering they don't even powder coat their product, I'd expect a little quicker processing time.

Can't you install your bumper without the C4 bracket, and install the bracket later?

I have C4 reinforcement brackets, and put them on after my bumper install. To be safe, I did not use my winch until I put the brackets on.

I probably could but I would still need to grind out the two welded bolt on each side of the mounting plate. I don’t want to be out in the cold right now. Last year it was 50-70 degree by now in Michigan. I’m happy for all the snow lover but I’m done with the snow and cold this year lol
