He’s super knowledgeable but I think he doesn’t necessarily have the volume or know to say it’s a true expansive issue. Plenty of these going 200k plus no issues. Dude also bought a new gen tundra…his wife also has a last gen GX and though solid well known for its valley issue. No yota is without some “issue.”

We've known about the 2gr-fks's less than stellar track record since 2015-2016

    Nothing new here

This ^ and for how many of these are in use and for over a decade in multiple platforms, it’s still a proven powertrain.

Aside from mileage, chronolgical age also counts. 1 decade is just starting to get to an age where certain issues might occur more frequently, i.e. related to plastic part warpage/degradation over time, etc

The imbalance issue was the biggest pain for me, 2017-2019 saw a bunch, it was hard to tell customers they needed 10,000$ to fix a check engine light.

They leak just like every GR engine.

But they are a bastard to work on compared to the 1GR, even removing valve covers is a huge pain in the butt compared to the old 4.0

I'm glad they are done and many are running out of warranty.

Do you think the cylinder head was updated to any reasonable extent that is lessening how many imbalances show up on the 2020+? Still seen a handful of them but the rate at which they show up seems to be slower…although of course that could just be because they’re newer.

I think quality was corrected, it was never fully explained what was happening, just told to replace cylinder heads.

Corollas had the same issue in 2012, no explanation either.
