    This morning here in Arkansas it is 12 degrees with a windchill of -2. You know what I’m gonna do ? You guessed it, I’m gonna warm the shit out of my truck before I leave the house. I gonna go out there and start it, go back inside and finish my coffee, feed the dog and the mean ass cat and let it idle for a bit. I love, love diluting my oil on a cold day. I wonder if the exhaust smells different when the oil is being diluted. I might smell like “victory”.

    Some of you guy are weenies. Go in the house while it warms up? Seriously?? Mind you, I pull out of a garage... :rofl:

    But all kidding aside, I do drive away slowly with my seat heater on, and my defrost on, and it warms up after a few quick miles. While some say their defrost doesn't do much, it is literally warming up the interior, slowly but surely and before you know it, you can switch it to the floor heater.

    If you live where it gets cold you'd understand. Prairie Provinces are colder than Ontario. You just don't get in and drive at -30. Even if you don't have heavy frost or snow on the windshield, just your breath will put frost on the inside of the windshield. You need the defroster to at least be somewhat warm to keep the windshield clear and safe. Don't laugh and judge others that live where it actually gets cold.

    This is exactly what I do. I live at the end of a cult de sac and it dumps onto a busier road, so I usually jump in and start the truck up, slowly make my way to the end of the road and sit. Running the defrost and seat warmer then switch to either both defrost and floor or just floor. Usually takes about 3 minutes to get the heat going good.

    Seems lot of people can't differentiate between truck is too cold to run and butt is too cold to drive.

    That's some scary-azz $#!+ right there - making me re-live childhood trauma...

    Now I'll never be able to warm up my truck in peace.

    (Or use the rear view camera if its snowing...)

    I cant stand anything above 25C (80??)

    I would literally die in AZ. I've seen 40f+ only a few times in my life and its unbearable to me.

    I remote start every vehicle I have, I want the oil thinned out a little bit before I go, and I have a garage lol.

    My truck is plenty warm before I drive away. I do a pre-flight checklist -
    * Walk around check for obstacles
    * Exterior lights and blinkers check
    * Hood latch check
    * Yell out window - “clear driveway!”
    * Start engine
    * Interior lights check
    * Scan all gauges
    * Adjust mirrors
    * Radio volume adjustment
    * Engine rev check - yep she revs
    * Place transmission in Drive
    * Proceed to end of driveway and slowly pull out to street
    * Accelerate to V1
    * On my way!

    It sometimes takes 10-15 minutes for my gearboxes to warm up at idle before pushing to full power. Don’t want to blow the seals when the oil is too cold and thick.

    It would probably take less than five minutes if you started the engine and drove it at moderate power settings.

    That’s with both engines running and the big fan turning. Takes a bit for the heat to build up through friction and heat transfer from the engines to the gearboxes.

    Alaska cold is also different than mainland USA cold.

    A lot of people havent experienced a cold car in -40. The brakes barely work, the gear box feels like peanut butter. The engine sounds like its near death.

    Keep your fricken gear boxes,

    I was as paperboy for the Chicago Tribune and Suntimes in 5th through 8th grade, in the 60's.

    365 days a year.

    NEVER AGAIN. I hate snow.

    If you like snow, that means you never really had to work in it or with it. Period.

    In Germany, had to walk out the second story windows at times. So much snow !

    No thanks.
