Dude Morgan Clarke is building offroad supercars. No use comparing to that! I often wish I had kept my build simpler so I could be driving it rather than spending another 2 years building it

All the things are expensive. I’ve been dumping money into our house the last 6 months since there hasn’t been a truck to dump it into. And hey, I’ll actually see that money back some day when I sell. Truck does need a cage though. I need to learn how to weld.

Probably not a whole lot, but I hate the way those look. Buddy of mine in high school did that to an S10, and it looked fine for like a month, then got faded and started peeling.

Can’t help it man, those cars are seriously beautiful. Literal magic. And you’re building your truck the correct way, because you in fact have the super power of making metal stick to other metal. I had to do a lot of stuff I definitely wouldn’t do again because my lack of said super power.

 

Fresh glass in, had a buddy drive it over to the exhaust shop today for me. They’re going to be throwing in a 24” magnaflow and then fender exit out the passenger side.

 

Don't be saying those words dude. In 2 years ( or less) you'll be happy with the none compromise approach when are ripping it in the desert.

PPE Exhaust?

I have two 5x11x22 Magnaflow’s in a series and out the right rear with a 3” hidden turn down.

 

That was the plan before it blew up again, but because im not entirely sure if im keeping this thing or not, I didnt think the 3-4k it would've been was worth it. Performance muffler is taking care of it for me. It's all mild steel, which isn't ideal, but their work is really good and pretty cheap too.

 

Picked her back up tonight. Also picked up a drive over fender 8.5 foot wide trailer tonight to tow this thing around. Comes with a winch and lights and electric tongue jack and everything. Got it for a crazy good deal.

Truck needs that exhaust exit to be ground down and profiled, and I need a beauty plate

 

So now that you have spent more monies on it and got a trailer - are you keeping the truck??

 

Perhaps. Either way the money needed to be spent to sell it. The trailer I basically stole for how cheap I got it, so can always include it with the truck for an extra 5k

 

Fair enough. How do you find having the side exit exhaust? Mine dumps behind the rear axle and I get some drone at highway speeds.

 

I personally haven’t driven the truck yet, but my buddy said it’s super quiet on the inside. No drone.

Definitely not a super power! Doesn't really take much skill with a mig to stick two pieces of metal together. Takes a small amount of skill to make it strong and takes a pretty decent amount of skill to make it look pretty when welding in any orientation. (I'm still working on that... I don't have the patience it takes)

You can get a decent used welder with a bottle of gas used online for cheap and just start with easy stuff like brackets or whatever and practice on scraps or random side projects and you'll be welding your own cage in no time.

Yeah but I also would have been happy with a compromised approach done two years earlier haha. After driving @tacotunner06 's Tacoma in the desert for a couple weeks, I was very fired up on what his truck can do. Same ls3, just mounted in the normal spot, caged, linked with 20", and a 16" 4x4 kit on the front. The truck whoops.

Though it is crazy to think what mine will be capable of once it's done.

 

Lmao part of me is terrified the mask is going to stop working and screw up my eyes lol. But also every time I’ve tried mig, the torch gets sealed shut by wire I need to take a class

 

You can get an old school non-auto mask! But what messes up your eyes is the UV, not the brightness (mostly). I was working near somebody welding for a couple hours and didn't think too much of it till that night I woke up in agony and couldn't see. Felt like I had gnarly sunburn on my eyeballs which I pretty well did. Took 3 days to recover.

Anyway, if you're wearing the mask, even if it doesn't darken, it still protects from UV, so you'll be fine haha.

I’m working on being a commercial pilot, so my eyes and ears are super important to me. Can’t throw away my career over something like this. I think I just need to nut up and get a nice mask.

 

I’d take a nice mask over a nice welder anyday of the week. I got a lincon 3350 and it improved my welds instantly. I haven’t had any reliably issues even in some pretty extreme weather 10-110 in the shop.

 

I have the same Lincoln 3350 hood but it's like $500cad for no reason. All you really want to look for is clarity and a decently large view. 1/1/1/1 is the best clarity rating.

This Amazon Helmet is $130 cad and uses the same auto darkening screen as the Lincoln 3350 for way less money just cuz it says yeswelder on it instead. I've used it and it's nice. I would have bought it instead but I got mine ages ago before these were coming out.
