I see many posts related to noise in our Tacoma but nothing related to what I am experiencing, loud fast noise at around 10 to 20 mph. It sounds like in the windshield area as if something was bouncing against it. Any ideas?

something is actually bouncing against it... how about you and your good buddy go drive it and you take a video of it while you point to exactly where the noise is coming from. then maybe we can help. if you take it to the dealership it would be best to do that exact same thing with a tech so you know they heard it.

where was your buddy at ? your supposed to point to where the noise is coming from.... a video online of a noise is terrible for diag. the person watching the video cannot tell if the noise is coming from behind/in front/outside/uptop.. because we are not in the truck with you.

I video tapped myself. The noise appears to be coming from the lower windshield area, but really hard to pin point because if I could tell exactly, I would put my hand to see what is vibrating. Hopefully someone else can figure it out.

I'll make a few uneducated guesses. Neddle bearing? Something in the steering? Heat sheild? Which sounds more likely than the first two. What's under the hood on that side of the truck? Hibernating wasp? I got a wasp in my truck I thought it flew back out but last time it warmed up the wasp was back and it climbed down into the window track not to be seen again. Probably not a hibernating wasp.

this might sound dumb, but if it's an interior rattle, i've found that the brute force method of giving a good thump to random spots in the culprit area can help you locate where its coming from (if you get any rattling feedback), and also sometimes just stop it.

and @Taco2GR86, i've also fallen victim to the sunglasses rattle

Sounds almost metallic…maybe try checking those ditch lights or their brackets touching something under the hood?

This was my first thought. But then if others w/o puddle light installs hear the same thing, maybe not.

Assuming your work checked out clear, just roll it in to the dealer and let a certified master technician shake it down. The source of a rattle that obvious should not be difficult for them to locate and fix.

The noise was there before I put the ditch lights and at the time I installed I made sure there was enough clearance because I bought a set from eBay that didn't and I had to return it. I am not sure what shields there are but I also replaced the cheapo engine guards I added the good skid guards and again the noise was there before I added those. So I am not sure what shields other than catalytic converter Shields...

Is it speed related or RPM related?
