Anyone know of a reputable car moving company or person? I'm moving back to Denver from Dallas in a few months and have three vehicles. Trying to plan how I'm going to do this. One option is to have the BMW and Jeep towed. Driving the GX470 back while towing a uhual. Or I drive M3 up, fly back. Drive the GX470 with the animals, fly back. And then rent a uhual truck for the rest.

The cost to rent a uhual truck and trailer comes out to around $1200. 1 way plane tickets currently between $50 and $100.

Unsure of cost to have two vehicles trailered, but it sure would save a lot of time and extra gas costs.

 

Any ideas for getting rid of a bunch of windows? I really don't want to break them up into the trash. I have 12 so far...

 

Hippies love that stuff for green houses. Try a thrift store, they might take them.

 

No friends that can help, and you fly them back?

I’d consider driving the GX back the long way to see some sights I’d never otherwise be in Texas for… fly in with a sleeping back/pad and backpack for some hiking on the way back.

Need recommendations for rear leaf springs

2004 Double Cab, 3.4, 4x4

@TMFF built Kings front coilovers for me (probably five years ago at this point - still not installed).

I am honestly looking to keep the lift to under 2”.

I still need to buy rear leaf springs.

OME/Dakars are usually closer to 3” of lift. I could remove one of the springs but then I lose load capacity.

Do I just add something to my current stock leafs (which seem shot) like an Icon Progressive AAL?

Alcans are an obvious choice but the “buy once cry once” rule is probably not in my budget right now.

For what it’s worth I also purchase the rear shocks years ago:

Bilstein 5125 (

Not entirely sure how these lengths factor into my desired less than 2” of lift - if it’s still doable with these shocks.

An AAL bought me about a year before I caved and put in a new full leaf pack. The AAL pretty much immediately made the worn out OEM leaves more of a W sag shape.

So I’d say, since you’re more cost conscious, buy once, cry once. Don’t waste the $60+ and labor/time (and $10+ for new, longer centering pins).

maybe @ShiftyShank or someone has a used take off OME set for you to get by for now.

 

A bastard pack will always be my recommendation but people's appetite for taking that on varies.
I honestly don't feel like building the pack was the hardest part of the equation if you're planning on replacing the springs yourself.

Anyway, on my 2nd gen the pack built 10(?) years ago is just as good today as it was when I built it. good flex and good weight capacity.
Anecdotal, but it seems like I hear about even very expensive new springs either not carrying weight or not flexing and then wearing out in a few years regardless.

 

He does have a take off but not for awhile.

I plan on doing my suspension this summer when I’ll have access to my second car all the time. That way I’m not screwed if I can’t get the truck’s suspension done in a weekend.

 

I wouldn’t mind building a bastard pack. I just have no idea what I’m doing, lol

 

I think the trick is getting old steel.
For some reason, I don't think today's steel is the same.
My pack was built from an old set made to lift a 70's scout 4".
I just used my stock top leaf and added leaves from that pack. To that end, you need a set that's the same width as yours. Angle grinder with a cutoff wheel get things to the right length.

If I remember right, I added too few leaves to start and had to remove and add so there was that extra labor.
There's an old thread on here somewhere that's pretty helpful.

 

I have a full set of Dakars that came off my 2nd gen you can have if you're going to build a pack. They're rusty but they're free. Also have a 3 degree shim on them.

 

Just take the bastards apart and add/remove the bastards as needed.

for real though, if they’re different lengths than my double cab needs then it’s already outside of my comfort zone of building it.

Would just go with a “plug and play” pack.

Edit: guaranteed if I try to build a bastard pack it’ll come out looking worse than when we originally added the AAL to the OME packs we installed (11 friggen years ago - time flies)
