I work in the security systems field, I picked up a mini anticipating an upcoming job that I knew cell coverage was not an option. I’m in several areas where cell service is not available while working service calls or installs.

Since I already have many Milwaukee batteries with me, I bought this adapter.

Got some use today while internet went down, no cell service at my house, I’m cooped at home doing online training with a sprained ankle and fractured fibula.

the 5ah batteries don’t necessarily hold it up right, the larger batteries do.

Pretty awesome. With shorter cables it works with a 65w PD also.

I’m about to pick up my kit from Best Buy. Starlink is a little more expensive than my current service, but I’m only at 35/5 with fixed wireless and it’s my only option.

Mag mount for now -- will probably move to a more permanent mount. Power consumption is ~20w.

The good lord willing and if the creek don’t rise, I’ll be moving to a place that has fiber- 1 gig for $79.99, 2 gig for $99.99

Thinking of the one gig as it’s 4x faster than my Starlink best of 250 MB..

Question for the masses, anyone transfer over to fiber but keep Starlink as a back up? If so, how do you keep it from getting bricked by falling too far behind on updates?

    Thanks in advance :hattip:

Just fire it up occasionally. They autoupdate over the network pretty fast now. Most of the time my mini lives in a backpack turned off.

    Thanks!!!

I was thinking of offering the Starlink when I put this place on the market and getting a mini as a back up to the new place

Starlink was getting slower for a while but it seems like it’s picked back up again.

No pics, but in medium/heavy woods this week, I got pretty steady drops every couple of minutes. (scout) camp was fun nevertheless, though, and hey I guess I shouldn't be glued to the truck forum anyway. :p

I find my experience with Starlink to be somewhat frustrating. On one hand I just did a speed test and got 310+ mbs down. On the other hand latency as high as 60 ms and I constantly get short disruptions of service. Mostly it's just a YouTube video hanging or my TV telling me I've lost internet connection. Every once in a while though I'll try logging into my banking app only to have Biometrics fail, causing me to go into my password manager and get my password and login the old fashioned way. Not the end of the world but a pain in the ass nonetheless.

What does the app tell you about obstructions?

There is a very little at the bottom of it's field of view but Starlink says i won't affect performance.
