Looking at buying a 2013 4x4 Tacoma with about 190K on the clock.

They are offering a warranty at about $3500.00 for 48 months covers engine, transmission, transfercase, drive axles, a/c, suspension, steering, cooling, fuel, brake electrical.

Exended warranty good idea or just another up sell at this age and mileage?

Aftermarket warranties are usually a waste of money, good luck getting the warranty company to pay for anything and good luck finding a shop that wants to mess with it. dealer cost on that warranty is probably around $1200

One can never have too many light bars.
I would make sure the contract has wording about what is considered a failure covered under warranty or a wear item that isn't covered. For example, an AC clutch failure could be considered a wear item and is pretty common at that age and mileage.

An extended warranty is like betting on the truck to break down within the warranty period.
If you are betting on it to breaking down in 48 moths, are you sure you should be buying the truck?

And if so, are you prepared to jump through the hoops to get it repaired.
Do you have the money that's typically required to diagnose the problem BEFORE they pay for the repair.
And that's IF they decide to cover it.

    I'd pass on it.

Aftermarket warranties are typically quite difficult to deal with.

    And way overpriced.

Ice-T doesn't happen to be working there does he? (You've seen him hustling warranties on TV, right?)

Aftermarket car warranties are super expensive and not worth it. They will weasel out of paying anything and tell you it's not covered. You're better off finding a better truck or saving the cash and do the preventative maintenance/repairs thru a reputable mechanic.

As an aside, don't ever buy a used car from a lot. VERY overpriced, as will their financing and their 'warranty'.

Check out Scotty Kilmer's YT channel and get his take on those warranties.

I doubt this is worth it man. I bought my 2014 v6 with 193k on it in September of 2023, I now have 237k. All I've had to do is basic maintenance like fluid changes, an alignment, etc. All in all has cost me less than $3500 and I'm almost at the 48 month range. These trucks are seriously bulletproof for the most part. Just my 2 cents

"We've been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty"...

anything that is so heavily marketed like that is more of a profit center then a truly helpful item.

IMHO, you are much better looking at private party sales than you are thru a dealership or used car lot. With used cars, you are essentially shopping the seller as well as the car itself. In a dealership/used car lot, you can't do that.
