Cargo lights won’t turn off

For which switch position?

 

Sorry, that reading was for the OFF position.

 

To confirm, you measured the resistance between pins 10 and 7 in Off position and registered a reading less than 10k ohms?
If this this a case, the swith is faulty. Can you run it through 3 year warranty ?

 

Warranty is over, expired last year. But why do the lights keep drawing power if the switch is disconnected altogether?

 

Are you saying the lights are on when you disconnected the hardness from the switch?

 

I didn’t notice them on but my battery is drained now. Truck was working fine Sunday night with switch disconnected and yesterday Monday my truck was dead.

 

Charge the battery, pull the cargo light fuse out. If battery drains again, you have a parasitic draw by some modules. Perhaps main body ecu.

 

I have no other choice than to visit the dealership. $189 just for them to take a look at it. This is rapidly getting out of my knowledge, was really hoping it were an easier fix.

 

Your options are to eliminate the switch and the cargo light circuit. Pull the fuse to disable it. You'll save 189, but lose lights.

I don’t want to lose the lights, I don’t use them but they’re part of the truck. I’ll charge the battery, pull the fuse, and take it to Toyota.

 

I could be wrong, but I think Vlady is suggesting a simple trouble shooting approach to determine the root cause to try and save you a few bucks.

 

I’ve ordered a new switch which will arrive tomorrow. Will pull the fuse and reinstall charged battery to verify if power draw is the cargo light.

 

Charging battery now, hope it picks up. Will remove fuse once battery (or replacement) goes in.

Will do that shortly, had my battery charging.

 

I can’t for the life of me remove it. Pulling on it brings the whole panel out. I installed a new switch and problem persists. For a minute the lights were on without the switch even connected.

 

On a side note, I didn’t know my truck had an alarm. Scared the living crap out of me when I connected the battery.
