If the engine starts to quit, you must acquit.

I guess one good thing about getting older (with ample financial resources) is you just don't worry about stuff like this anymore. If my 3rd Gen truck engine detonates, it'll be a good excuse to go give those 4th Gen hotties a whirl. Otherwise I'll just keep driving my 3rd Gen till one of us goes Tango Uniform.

It would just be cheaper to buy another engine.

Another POS/minivan/camry/car engine, that leaks oil all over the place?

NO I am not worried because I picked up a 2024 4Runner last May specifically because I wanted the same or upgraded version of the 4.0 V6 from my 2006 Tacoma V6 that served me well for 17 years.
And yes, I am on my 2nd Jim Beam with sparkling water. Wife wants me to quit drinking for a month or two starting 3/1. I already gave up beer. What the hell, I'll give it a shot.

    I'm personally not concerned.

We have a failure rate thread that is a small sample, but I would still say this isn't even a .5 %

    “how to clickbait 101”:

choose a product the maximum number of people own, declare yourself an expert, and speculate how one day it might cause the owner grief, based on anecdotes.

Way I figure, worrying won't magically ensure nothing happens to my truck.

So... I just drive it more, worry less, and maintain it. About all I can do.

That random ACS plenum breakage is the only thing I keep my eye out for tbh...otherwise the vehicle is pretty bullet-proof with proper maintenance IMO.

All YouTubers go this way. Once they start making decent money off views, and get used to that money rolling in, and then discover that money keeps getting less, unless they constantly feed the YT algorithm, they start going after eyeballs and clicks rather than whatever content established their channel in the first place. This particularly happens when YouTube becomes their “job” or at least major source of funding. Very few exceptions to this rule.

CCN is now on the “content treadmill”.

I think the only ones offended by that video are the ones who made the conscious decision to buy a truck powered by a D4S, all aluminum (head and block), port AND direct injected car motor with plastic coolant pipes, plastic ACIS plenum, 2 sets of fuel pumps, etc.

Granted the majority of the ones after 2018 are pretty reliable, they do have inherent flaws in the design and execution and to some people the 2gr-fks was non-starter from get get-to. Personally I would never drop 30+ grand on a 2gr powered anything

I'm not worried at all, and have confidence with the overall reliability of my 3rd gen 3.5L 2GR-FKS. After all, Toyota and Lexus use our truck engine in minivans and suv's :anonymous:
