Hey all. I just had a coolant flush done over at jiffylube. I asked if they had the Asian vehicle coolant and was informed they use universal coolant which is suitable for any car. After the service I checked my manual and it said to only use Toyota Super Long Life Coolant. I have a 2013 tacoma. Wondering if I should cut my losses and flush again at a real mechanic shop or just run the coolant for 25000 miles instead of longer. Any advice would help. The kid wouldn't even tell me what type of coolant they use. Or he might have not known.

I’d flush a couple of times and refill with the correct fluid, since you don’t know what’s in it.

v6 has block drains that make it pretty easy, not sure if the 4 cyl does too if you have that

The 2.7 has a block drain too.

It's fine. If they flushed it, it got most all of the old out.
I don't like mixing fluids. If they just did a drain and fill, I'd maybe consider "redoing" with a flush.

But if they flushed it, I'd not worry about it.
Do it again in 5years/ 50k miles and you'll be just fine.

Is 5y/50k the "standard" lifespan of coolant?

if so, i need to change mine soon

Depends on the coolant, on both my 2010 Tacoma and the wife's 2014 Rav4 the first recommended was 10/100 or 10/120. I was about to do mine in 2021 when the frame rotted and the dealer advised they replace the coolant in the process..did the Rav4 last summer.

    OEM SLLC is 10year / 100k.
    Then it's 5 year/50k.

So, basically you can go 10 years or 100k on the fluid that comes in the truck.
    Then every 5/50k after that....

Odd, but that's what Toyota recommends.
Might as well be 5year/50k all time.

I wouldn’t worry about it, they wouldn’t be in business if it harmed your Tacoma. Your not the first one to have this done.
