Sounds like careful encouragement with a heavy hammer or some thoughtfully-applied ratchet straps might help?

Thanks! Ratchet strapping did the job perfectly.

For future reference. Put the track frame in jack stands and remove both rear wheels. Put a jack under the diff and you'll easily be able to align the axle with one side loose or even both. Just don't let it rotate all the way forward so the slip joint pops out. That's how I do leaf spring work and works very well.

Good to hear the update, made the same purchase based on your post/pictures, and a few other items.

@TacoLolo where did you purchase it from and is there a write up you followed? I definitely need to do mine as it’s basically all cracked off.

Not the best pics. I cut out all the plastic in the grill cover, painted black and clear coated, and added mesh. Also painted around the side lights. I might leave it emblem-less or add the “Toyota” worded one.

For the lights, I took off the “chrome” as it was flaky but on the grill cover I didn’t as it was on pretty solid and just didn’t feel like going through all that. Only time will tell how long it lasts but seems to be holding up in the weather.

As you can see, bumper is off and working on that next! In the steel cutting process. I’ll probably be selling the bumper, impact bar and skid plate if anyone has a need.

I got them online from Olathe Toyota Parts Center, super easy install. There are a few write ups on TW, I found one that shows how to install without removing anything extra. Just pop ‘em out and clean up that area, slide the front end under the side mirror bezel where it came from and push it all the way in to get a good seal, line up the clips and pop ‘em back in and your done!

Any chance you've still got one I could buy off you? Doing a prerunner conversion and this is one of the only parts I can't find anywhere. Unfortunately this was the only piece of hardware my diff didn't come with and of course the only one that's discontinued.

Good weekend so far. Put a new Sony stereo in - Bluetooth works like a charm, still finalizing where I put the mic, so it's temporarily clipped-in at the top of the A pillar. Gonna see if I can find somewhere less intrusive that still provides good audio quality. Added a PanaVise InDash mount too. Got all that done in ~3 hours on Friday, including setting up all my tools in the carport for today's work on the timing belt.

Today, got as far as pulling the Power Steering belt, partially complicated by a trip to the parts store because I needed a pry bar. In unrelated news, I broke my first tool by using something that should not have been used as a pry bar as a pry bar. Oops. Then family obligations interrupted, so the truck's closed up with the radiator, fan, and a whole bunch of bolts out. Using the cardboard trick to keep those organized, so I'm not worried about picking back up later. Gonna need to clean a whole bunch of caked-on dry antifreeze off the radiator hose connections anyhow.

Getting ready for an overland event here in SC and rotated the tires and gave the truck a look over. Noticed my caliper is leaking a little and the power steering rack is leaking pretty good. Luckily both are remans from NAPA so it'll just cost my time to replace. It'll all have to wait a couple weeks. On the plus side, the oil pan leak seemed to fix itself (yes there is still oil in it).

Ok... I don't have one of these on the Tacoma. (Working on the 4 Runner)

What is it? It needs to go in the trash, it's in the way.

Installed a seat bracket from H3R Performance for their clean agent extinguisher. Probably should have gotten the next size up, as 1.4lb is smaller than I thought it would be.. Originally tried the Bracketeer but wouldn't work with the seat bolts being at different anglesPXL_20250301_173318382.jpg PXL_20250301_173659291.jpg

been a hot minute but IIRC, it’s 1) for the 4wd actuator on the clamshell or 2) emission related

If it's for the clamshell, that shit is going in the trash.

    Hopefully that's what it is.

Doing some research. It does appear to be a vacuum canister to the ADD system. The plan is to go manual on this build. So, as long as it doesn't also tie in to emissions, it's coming out. I'll have to trace the rest of the vacuum lines (it goes to a distribution block in the engine compartment) tomorrow.

changed the plugs and wires using the excellent sticky write-up in this forum. 23yo daughter did much of the work, as she'll be taking the rig on a 2-3mo road trip this summer.
