What height are you trying to get? What do you plan on doing? and what kind of ride?

I enjoy the level look that the TRD Lift kit gives me. If there's something that gives the 1" lift in the rear once the block is removed, that would be great!

Unfortunately, outside of a custom pack, no. you could get close (within 1/2") with any aal and the overload removed, General Spring KC HD has a complete replacement pack that lifts about 1.5 after settling. But those are the only options off the top of my head.

Appreciate your help! I could potentially live with 1.5" if it takes away the rough riding conditions... I'll be starting my research with those recommendations!

Does anyone know the compressed and extended lengths of the rear shocks? Would love to be able to properly compare these to other options.

Looking at the pictures here it seems the shocks are the exact same length as 5100s. With the 1in block that means you would be losing 1in of down travel by installing this lift. Why wouldn't they have based it on the 5125 shocks that are 1in longer and wouldn't lose the droop?

    The 5100’s are 1” longer.

Longer than what? 5100 rear shocks are the same length as the stock 3rd gen TRD off-road shocks. The leafs can droop about 5/8in beyond their length. If you add a 1in lift block with the 5100s you lose 1in of travel vs without the block as they are using up an inch of extension when the axle is in the fully up position. The right model of 5125 shocks is 1in longer compressed and adds roughly that extra 5/8in of extra travel needed to use the full range of the leaf springs.

I just wonder if it was a lazy choice or if they were trying to protect from brake line overextension or leaf spring longevity?

I’m no expert, but I thought the 5100”s are spec”d for up to 1” of lift? And 5125 from 2-3.5” lift. If the TRD kit uses a 1” rear block, then the 5100 would match.

My understanding is that those specs are kind of hogwash because there are lots of different ways to lift.

From a technical standpoint you aren't likely to cause damage to any shock that has a compressed length of less than the compressed length of your shock mounts so they aren't wrong saying a shock works with a certain lift height but that doesn't mean it is optimal. A 1in lift block moves your lower shock mount down an inch so your suspensions compressed and extended lengths both go up by an inch. Your max extended length is limited by the shock so if using stock length shocks it is still the same but your max compressed length has gone up by an inch so you have an inch less of overall travel. So unless I am missing something a TRD lift kit lift would have 1in less suspension travel in the rear than a stock TRD off-road.

5125 shocks aren't specd for any particular lift height as they arent marketed to any particular vehicle but are listed as universal shocks for custom applications. There are extended length 5100 series shocks specd for more lift but their compressed length is too short for use with a 1in lift block unless you add a bigger bump stop and give up up travel.

It just seems weird to me that Toyota had their bilsteins for the lift kit be based on the 5100s and not the 5125s. They already include a bracket to reposition the e-brake cable but maybe they were afraid of wear and tear on the break lines without extension or repositioning and didn't want to get into that? Or maybe they were just copying the 5100 lifts others were offering and figured it didn't matter for a mall crawler......

I’ve seen 2 good videos of the TRD kit off-road. One with stock tires, one with 1” taller tires (32”s). They both performed very well, and had plenty of flex. More than enough for the typical weekend warrior. The serious off-road enthusiasts would look at other kit options.

I will be installing the TRD lift kit this weekend. I have the stock off-road shocks, a 5100, and the TRD lift kit shocks. I can measure and compare all 3 and report back.

After watching a bunch of portal axle videos, I’m revisiting the OEM lift kit. Again :) The money for the portals is outa sight. Then add wheels and tires, installation. I know it’s comparing apples to oranges but with a slight tire size increase (265/70/16 to 265/75/16) it’s all I want ATT.

The block gives you 1in less down travel than you had without it and the stock shocks. With an empty bed you are going to bo a lot closer to full extension and I could definitely see it topping out a lot more and being very rough. Longer shocks with the lift block would fix that problem.

Aren’t the 5100’s 1” longer than stock shocks?

Thats exactly what I have. 265/75/16 on stock off-road wheels. 2” lift . Looks perfect and performs good enough for me. I had 33’s and really liked them, but just not worth all the headaches associated with them.

It may depend on which stock shocks. In the rear I know they are the exact same extended length as the TRD Off-Road shocks but they may be longer than the base model shocks. I don't know how long those are.

In the front I believe the 5100s are longer than the trd off-road front shocks but not certain.

Ok, here’s the 3 rear shocks compared to each other. The 5100 and the stock TRD off-road shocks are the same length. To my surprise the TRD shocks are 3/4” -1” longer than both the others.
