Just got back from putting these tires through their maiden voyage on a camping trip to the orange cliffs/maze district in Canyonlands. Running 265-75r16 SLs. Very impressed with the tires. Better than the Toyo AT3s I was running previously, only broke traction once, and it was very brief. A very slight bit more hum than the Toyos. Actually like the sound they make on pavement.

i currently have a about a 2.9” dobinson mmr lift, cab mount chop, and high clearance bumper/viper cut like yours. Anything else i need to do to get 295/70r17 to fit? My wheels are method nv 305 0-offset. Will this do?

I am running 6112s set for 2 inch with 700lb Eibach springs and 5160s in the rear. I have RXTs on level 3. Full skids in aluminum and steel sliders with top plates. Timbren bumpstops front and rear. The camper weighs about 450lbs with another 200 or so with drawers and the camping crap in them.
I did an aggressive cab mount chop with some pinch weld hammering. My wheels are 17s with a -12 offset. I do get the odd rub at full flex still here and there, but a cab mount relocate is next since I'll go 35s once these tires are done. The tires have been great so far though.
Hope that helps and answers your questions

I read this entire thread and it sounds like most people said Baja Boss AT in 265/75r16 SL didn’t hurt MPGs too bad compared to stock Goodyear Kevlar. Can anyone confirm MPGs compared to stock?

(Besides one comment that said they went down in MPG coming from equally sized BFG K02).

I now live hours further from the trails and can no longer lie to myself about needing E loads. Realistically I now just want the best overall standard loads. Thanks in advance

I haven't run the Mickey Thompson's yet, but they claim to be 7.5 lbs heavier than the fortitude that were stock on mine. Should be a noticeable hit on mpg's, but the performance increase should be worth it.

Factory tires for me were scary in the snow.

My OR stock had low highway mileage from the start (19ish at 75 mph). When I got Toyos AT3s SLs (32s), it dropped about 1 mpg. When getting the Mickeys, it either stayed the same or was maybe up to 1 mpg lower than the AT3s. There is no way it stays the same if the weight of each tire is increasing 3 to 4 lbs.

Anyone happen to have experience with both SL and E versions? These sound like a great option but I'm really thrown off by the weight extremes - 265/75R16 is 42# for SL and 58# for E...for those who are bad at math, that's 16 freaking pounds! I didn't anticipate these making the ST Maxx look light (which are my previous, "very want, but too many heavy" option). I'm asking from a perspective of, I know the E variant is going to be a great performing, durable tire; but is the SL just a milder look-alike?

I love the idea of something not horribly heavy to keep the driving dynamics close to where I'm at; but at the same time I don't want something that only looks durable. I'm hesitant to look at things in this weight range; but I had 7 flats just on the freaking paved roads here last year so that gets old fast. Most being small nails, the tread depth alone would probably have saved me, but one was a 8-10mm bolt I rolled over in a parking lot, and another a chunk of aluminum on the highway which are my cases where I'm not sure a tougher carcass would have helped or not. That said, I'm most likely moving to CO or CA this year so my time off pavement will also be increasing exponentially to say the least; but I'm not going to be getting in to anything hardcore either.

    Thanks for any insight!

I’ve not had both but in case you hadn’t seen it, the SL is not 3 peak snow rated. Might be a factor if you’re moving to CO. I also don’t think the SL has the protruding sidewall.

I went from the ST Maxx to these (E rated) and am happy with the change. They feel softer than the coopers and are quieter by a few decibels. I think I posted them a few pages back. I was ranging 15-16mpg with the Baja but adding a roof rack in 12-14mpg..

That's interesting - I didn't notice the lack of snow rating on SL either. By the numbers the SL does really seem pretty watered down. After finally breaking the seal on snow tires here in MI I can't see myself not going that route for winter (especially in a non-planar locale), but that could change if winter exploring becomes a thing for me.

I do appreciate the apples to apples on the ST Maxx, quiet & compliance could overcome a few extra LBS; that's definitely something to keep in mind.

I stand corrected, I was sure that the under 285 were not but I had it wrong. The tires under 12.5” wide are snow/3peak rated. Thanks for that correction @pinem56

Off topic, but without running a snorkle do you have a cowl intake?

No, I plugged off the fender intake hole and cut a 3" hole on the back side of the filter box facing the firewall but never ran anything into the cowl.

Never have any issues at all?? I'm about to do it myself and wondering if it's necessary to drill a hole in your cowl

Zero issues in the 3 years I've been running it like this. I considered doing the cowl intake but l live in the high desert, majority of the water crossings I come across are < a foot deep. So having a setup to ford deep water isn't a concern. But avoiding lots of dust/dirt, snow and puddles splashed at the fender intake port was a major concern so plugging that and cutting a hole on the backside on the box has been plenty adequate for me.
