10 years is the magic number , I found from a value perspective that’s the perfect amount of time to own a vehicle . That will give you usually plenty of time to get your money s worth . Provided it’s a good vehicle to begin with . It’s awesome having a decent vehicle, for a good amount of years and not have a payment

Your depreciation is partly a function of the building inventory of new and used vehicles. Remember all those guys on TW who were sending their used 3rd gens off on Carmax and Carvana flatbeds 2-3 years ago for more than they paid? They made a killing but those days is over. Hodl onto your truck!

I did the same thing last week. I had a 2024 TRD-OFF-ROAD Premium with over 22,000 miles that I traded in on a 2025 Trailhunter with the 6 foot bed. The dealership discounted the price of the Trailhunter around $5,000.00 under the TSRP, and gave me $38,000.00 for the TRD-OP.

I’m glad your happy with your 4 th Gen , it doesn’t mean all of us have issues with our 3rd Gen . I don’t know why all the hate . But quite frankly, no one knows how you drive or maintain your truck or what you expect from it . Mine does all my needs as a daily driver , companion for all the side jobs I do , and house hold projects . I maintain it meticulously, and have not had a single issue . Now do I like the way the 4 th Gen looks …yes . Do I have a need for one …. No. The best part of my truck now is it’s paid for . Runs good and is my favorite vehicle in the house . If I ever decide to sell it I will get top dollar for it .
So you do you and I will do me .

I think everyone is just tired of people coming over from the 3G side and shitting all over their new truck. I’ve owned 2 3G and now a 4G. I love this truck much more than either of the 3G I had. There have been a few issues that are being addressed, but overall, they seem solid.

I’m not shitting on it at all , I like the 4 G and there are lots of stuff that probably is better . But
I was just letting him know that I am fine with my 3G and not everyone has problems with them .I always remind myself that cars / trucks in general are a depreciating asset, and chasing the latest and greatest is not always the way to go , ( for me ) . I keep my vehicles for at least 10 years for that reason unless it turns out to be a money pit .6 years in on this Tacoma and all is good. Now hopefully I don’t jinx myself lol

LMAO, "tons", okay bud. This coming from the same guy who had one and is now panicked about his transmission going out every other thread on his new gen. Yep soo many issues those piles of junk hardly sold and are piled up on used lots or in dealer shops, no one wants them so much that they're residual value is the same as a used 2024. Please, I would like to live in whatever fantasy land you live in. Every gen even the holier than out thou 1st gen had "issues." Not a single one of my 3rd gens has had any "issues" let alone a "TON" of them and I'm willing to bet that is the majority of owners here.

Aren’t you the same guy who goes to the dealership every other week looking to trade up for a 4th gen and then decides not too…..

Yeah, they had tons of issues, 8 years worth of bitching and moaning about VARIOUS problems , most of which were never officially fixed

Wish I had that much time, and probably still wouldn't for that transformer reject.

Wow such substantial evidence you provide here, crazy to think they are still highly sought after and sold so many even with sooooo many problems.

I hope none of your 3rd gens had issues, they had since 2005 to perfect it. Did none of your 3rd gens have the fuel pump recall? Leaky 3rd brake light? Frame rust? Paint problems? Maybe you didn’t own any of yours long enough.

Never had the SW's long enough but that was a 2nd gen problem as far as flaking paint and carries over multiple gens (you all are kidding yourselves if you dont think the 4th gen wont fall to the same issue). And none of those things you listed are truly issues brake light was a gasket, fuel pump replaced, and bet your 4th gen will have frame rust too in certain areas and was later addressed within the 3rd gen lifecycle. If we are comparing 4th gen is a year in and already a transmission TSB, brake line recall, failed evap coolers, etc.

My 2020 I had for 60k miles, my 2022 now has 40k, my 17 had 45k miles, my 19 36k, etc. and having owned almost every year I got to experience all the "issues" you mentioned. Only one that ever had an issue was the 16 which wasnt really issues, rear diff howl, howling lower control arms and a bad front dash speaker piece. I also owned a 01, 08, 11, and 15. Every single truck had some minor thing or nuance. But you are kidding yourself if you think the 3rd gen is some plagued problem vehicle with so many issues.
