Check the torque on the CV axle nut, it should be 173ft lbs. If they pulled the CV axle to install the needle bearing and it didn't get torqued back down properly, as mentioned above, the wheel bearing is likely the issue

I've jacked the driver side up and did the normal check for a bad wheel bearing and everything seems nice and tight, no movement up and down or side to side. Guess I could pop the cap off and check the torque.

Yeah definitely give that a quick check. You might also make sure the CV is fully seated in the diff

Whats the best way to do that? It seems to have a little in and out movement.

You would take a pry bar and place it into the notches on the CV axle housing close to the front differential, then hammer on the pry bar. Don't hammer on the end of the CV axle itself.

are you saying you've had a clunk develop on a vehicle that is 11 years old with over 100,000 miles?

Nope. The clunk wasn't there until after the needle bearing delete on Friday. Yes my truck is 11yrs old, 80k miles. Smartass.

according to this post, your vehicle has developed a clunk after 11 years.

    this is normal. Recommend diag.

maybe tech working on your vehicle didn’t have their wheaties that day and left something loose causing the clunk.

maybe something wore out at the same time due to 11 years old. Because things wear out at 11 years.

determine what is clunking will require diagnosis regardless of whether it is caused by a person or wear. Which will either be you on the ground for free or paying a person to do that if you are not willing to.

this is life. Life is not perfect. Worse can happen. I had work done by a reputable shop. They left at least one component loose. I laid on the ground to see what it was and tightened it, solving the problem.

more things will continue to break in time on their own on all of our trucks. I garuntee it. And it will still be significantly cheaper than buying a turd gen made out of cardboard broken in the dealer showroom resulting in a win.

I don’t get on here as much as before. I would always be on here every morning when I got to work but now that I am unemployed, I forget to come in here.

little update on the old girl, she’s been truckin along. There are days when I think of seller her for a bigger truck with more rear seat room but when I drive it…all those feeling go away. I love this truck.

Just hit 199,901 on the odometer. Had regular 5K mile service performed in addition to coolant flush and serpentine belt replacement.

Had my local, Independent Toyota Shop do the work.

And, in my personal mission to will Winter out and Spring in, I put my cab mounted Rhino Rack back on this past weekend, for my canoe. It's my primary fly-fishing craft.
