Almost exactly like the ones I threw away because I didn't want the hassle of storing them 4 years ago

It's refreshing to see something from KSL instead of Facebook marketplace.

When I bought the truck both CV's were trashed (literally threw them in the trash). I figured after 300,000+ miles they deserved to retire but I definitely should have hung onto them.

There's a place in St. George called Mitchell's It's the best alignment shop I've ever been to.

We went to Milt's last Valentine's Day, and I ordered the Dry Lakes Ranch ribeye. It was not from Dry Lakes Ranch (we buy all our meat from DLR). I complained to the waitress about it.

Milt's has gone steadily downhill. I love the location and the salad bar, and I love supporting local businesses, but we've spent too much money on thoroughly subpar meals there lately. Heck, I've had better prime rib at Bowman's.

they run out pretty early, maybe you got up charged for something else. My last steak there was amazing. I like the salad bar and rolls too.

Bowman's has a good peach cobbler. It's a nice stopping spot for dinner after taking the tacoma through the trails at 3 peaks

Working on planning a roadtrip coming up(last week of March). One segment is Moab through capital reef to Bryce Canyon and then down to north rim. Figure will have to be on west side of canyon since the main road into national park is usually closed til mid April.

    IMG_7084.jpg

any suggestions on routes through capital reef area or around Bryce? Like to spend as much time on dirt as possible but still want to be able to make it from Moab to Bryce in one day.

And assuming weather makes the roads/trails dry during that time, any suggestions for places to go (or avoid) on west side of Grand Canyon? After camping as close to the rim as possible gonna head up to St. George and Zion for at least 1 night maybe 2.

    IMG_7083.jpg

That’s our full route. One truck. No winch unfortunately so I’ll be making sure when in Moab to stay away from a few routes that have some hairy sections. If wasn’t solo vehicle or had a winch I’d be willing to push it more, but Moab seems to have no wrong answer when it comes to great scenery and fun trails even if only easier stuff

Most of the back roads I've used in Capitol Reef go through washes at some point and may even require driving the wash a short distance before it continues.

    1. Notom Bullfrog to Burr Trail/Wolverine Loop. South of 24 and east of the fold.

    2. From Bicknell, Teasdale or Loa pick a route over the Aquarius Plateau and shoot into Escalante.

Tricky to do it in a day….

Make sure to check for prescribed fires near Jacob Lake. They were burning along 89 a few weeks ago. Keep in mind the north rim is closed until May. Snow can happen through late April around there. Same for 89 through Utah. It’s been a dry winter for the lower half of Utah but the snow gods may punish us soon enough. Southern Utah is 28% of snow pack. Severe drought throughout. Be fire-wise and enjoy this beautiful state. Zion is worth a drive through, the buses just started back up. Should start getting busy. Get there early to avoid people(ew). Maybe check out Sand Mountain (Sand Hollow) in Hurricane if you’re gonna spend more than a day in St George area.

Yep. Copy all that. Was planning on having to go over to west side by tuweep/MT Trumbull to have a chance. From what I’ve gathered, that side over there gets less official closures done on the roads themselves but still catches that precipitation. So assuming stuff is dry will try to get over near toroweap or slightly east of it.

As far as highway 89 in Utah you’re saying that ones likely to close down? If I can manage to get from Bryce Canyon to St. George even if it’s cutting through Dixie or small roads without tons of backtracking, will be alright. And yes will do at least 1 hike in Zion and do an MTB ride likely on gooseberry Mesa area outside of StG.

If all goes as planned, 8 national parks. If we were doing a bit later would hit Yosemite on the way home too but that road (east side of Yosemite) is also usually closed until mid April.

I don’t think 89 closes. But just be aware of weather. I immediately looked to see if you have 4wd, you’re good. Be patient, the tourists can’t drive worth a damn here, neither can most of the residents. :D

I’ll confuse everyone with my Texas license plate and not spinning out of control in snow lmao. But yes going solo vehicle no winch just traction boards shovels straps etc, so gonna be overly alert of everything on and off road for this trip.

The problem isn’t as much the snow as it is the mud. The mud here turns to baby shit was very little moisture.

Hit up Hurricane’s Main Street Cafe if you need a meal, preferably breakfast. Small quaint little spot not too far from Zion. :hungry:

Over the Edge bike shop is right around the corner from the cafe. They’re pretty laid back and friendly. They do demos, but it sounds like you’re bringing a bike? My other half ended up buying one of the demos after some good riding.

I use my traction boards a lot, they are damn near worn out (mostly from helping other people who don't understand you can't just slam the gas and spin the tires on a piece of plastic) but I have still never used my own winch.

Looks like you've got a pretty good route. If you find yourself concerned about hitting something specific out here let me know, I could be the chewbacca to your solo

Is this even remotely doable in 1 day? My guess Is I would need to have a way shorter trail in moab that morning to make it work. Bullfrog looks like it isn't crazy time consuming yea? That hike is 1-1.5 hours most likely. Cutting across Capital on 0598 Burr Trail after doing the Hike.

And may just grab a hotel/motel somewhere along 12 before bryce canyon for a shower. We don't have some boujee camping setup so Might be nice, and can roll in way after dark and not be an issue. Moab is certainly my main attraction for this trip so will start this day with something in moab even if its short. Or we may camp in San Rafael swell area to give us slightly less drive to start on the day in question

It would be a lot better if you had some flexibility in your time-line. There are side hikes in Capitol Reef and stuff to see that are a lot better if you aren't cruising the backroads at 70 mph to stay on schedule.
