I’ve been meaning to get a setup like this for a while now for both my rigs.

Welp. Got most ways through the hard parts of the disassembly portion of a timing belt, found some very confusing indications. Timing belt looks extremely new - no record at all of it being done recently, and the bolts all fought coming off like they've been on (and rusting... oh boy) since the sticker on the timing belt cover says it's been done. And the auxilary belts are... well, alternator belt's newish, PS belt is very old.

Plus the passenger side bolts at/below the camshaft all came out with a nice layer of engine oil over top - something tells me that's not at all supposed to happen. Suppose I'll figure out if it's the cam seal once I get further in.

However, ran into a problem. When I was pulling the harmonic balancer (which I'm pretty sure is toast), one of the two M8 bolts I was using in combination with the OTC Stinger to pull it seems to have stripped some of the threads... And leaves me pretty stumped on how to proceed to get it pulled the rest of the way. I'm thinking I'll run a M8 tap down next chance I have to work on the truck to see if I can chase the threads clean and hopefully there's enough of them to get the thing off (I think it's toast, there's a noticeable crack running around the circumference of the rubber).

That said, I'd appreciate any suggestions for getting the stupid thing off. Preferably without trying to cut it free, I'm nervous about damaging the crankshaft while trying that.

Truck's really showing its Ohio here and with the fan pulleys, which I really hope I can just wire brush and repaint.

Ever actually used one? I’ve seen a few very critical reviews from people who tried them and thought they were ineffective. It’s a small sample but one was from a YouTuber I consider trustworthy.

I have one myself but I still carry a common chemical extinguisher. It’s hard for me to argue with tried-and-true when the stakes are so high.

I want to like them, the sales pitch is great, but like I said, hard to argue with proven standards for safety equipment.

Seems like I've done this before :pout:
I don't really want to do this again.

But, I also got the sliders spotted up and tacked.

IMG_5909.jpg I just used a cheep bracket, my seats have the pull bar for the dual sliders so clearance was a challenge.

A while back there was a thread on fire extinguishers and the know it alls popped off saying the little fire extinguishers are worthless because they are used up in like 10 seconds.

I wasn’t aware of rhe Element fire extinguishers at the time, I think both might be worth carrying since the Element ones are so easy to store

Question for those who have relocated your battery to the back. What gauge wire did you use to run to the back, and I'm assuming you used that same gauge wire to run back up for the winch.

Just hashed this a bit last week in the LT thread, mix of 4/0 and 2/0... consensus that 4/0 was better.
I am laying out my own now also, and planning to do 4/0 battery to a "bus" terminal in roughly the OE + terminal location and run more normal gauge for the remaining discreet runs in the engine bay.

Seems like we're both having the same idea.

Something like this in the area where the battery would normally go?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I used 4ga for the engine bay items (starter, OE fuse block, alt) back to the blocks but ran single ought to the block and from the block to the winch.

Anyone ever attempted a solar panel bi or tri-fold bed cover? Seems like standard dimensions will limit me to 2x200W panels and maybe squeeze a skinny 100W panel in front but thinking that final panel's probably not worth the trouble. Wondering more about slider solutions that are fairly watertight.. I'm got some ideas but looking for more... possibly some that allow tilt on different axes
