Not everyone lives 10 minutes from a dealer. I'm an hour away, not to mention gas costs. So I like your idea better. Saves money, time and aggravation. And you're not giving the dealership an opportunity to damage your vehicle.

Should have looked in the rear view mirror, as you were leaving the dealership, realizing you were LUCKY, and saved us the boastful post.

    I wasnt "lucky"....
It was a easy deal, if your reasonable & rational, they are also....
    But whatever....
I get it, its a 30 second fix..
When I called my writer before bringing it to him, thats the first thing we discussed on the phone....
I gave him the run down, scenario, concern, fix, part # etc...
actually sent him a text before had with pic of control arm with plugs & part#.

I explained I can fix this in 30 seconds myself but if you feel you can get it covered, ill have the actual toyota plugs vs some work around...
I also could have gone to my previous place of employment / dealership & grabbed some free plugs or grommets that would have also worked.
Point is, writer didnt even blink, said, shouldnt be an issue, bring it in & lets jump through the process...
No promises until we assess the situation.
Nobody their whined that it wasnt covered cuz it was self inflicted from removing the snow-plow...

Seems like alot of you guys get angry with just thinking about the word dealer or having to get something addressed, such is life...

    Yes, Im a different here...
Ive been in the dealership industry for 32 years as an master certified ford engine tech, certified in engine repairs, specializing in manual tranmissions, coolant leaks, oil leaks, hybrid certified, all aspects of exhaust repairs, NVH repairs & noises, AC certified, etc broken bolts & doesnt matter who broke them, they all came to me...
Im capable of doing stuff myself, probably more-so than anyone here..

I do understand that if your truly an hour from you closest dealer, that wouldnt make sense...
I cant fathom that as theres 172 toyota dealers in california, 9 dealers within my 50 mile radius....

I was solely just sharing my experience as figured from this thread nobody has attempted getting the proper repair with the toyota plugs & not having to pay for them, it wasnt like pulling teeth to make it happen....
    Carry-on..

    Thanks for posting your resume…………
32 years in the industry SHOULD have taught you that EVERY dealership handles the same problem differently……even Toyota dealerships……..and the guys who have written about their issues are no less than yours getting a solution……..
I guess you missed that some Tacomas came with the plugs, and some didn’t.

    I didnt miss anything....
Still not clear about 4wd vs 2wd...
Maybe only 4x's come with plugs?
Mine is a 2x, & my guess is most, if not all, 2x's dont come with the plugs..
I crawled under a few on the lot prior to see the writer & didnt see plugs in various sports bth 2x & 4x..
    no idea, dont care...
bottom line, I didnt have to kick & scream or pay a dime.
Some of us dont blow doe on Amazon prime so even the $6 plugs with shipping would have been almost $20...

Im just trying to point out, it wasnt an issue getting them to take care of it,
you do you, ill do me...

Thanks for sharing. I did go to my local dealership once I found out what was causing the noise and they flat out refused to cover the cost of the plugs. It seems like it's arbitrary whether one dealership will cover it over another... I just think the fact some trucks have plugs and others don't is reason enough to make a claim to have it covered but they just went off their list of parts each truck should have and my Sport premium was not on the list of trucks that should have them installed. A tad frustrating. :frusty:

Good info, my writer is handling it under warranty.
It wasnt even a battle what so ever.
Straight up told me, wont be an issue...
I didnt even get my second truck from them, they couldnt source me one at the time.

I'll ask again next time I'm in there. I think more people here had the same answer I did. I wonder if multiple contacts about this issue with corporate wouldn't be an option... This long after the fact I've pretty much written it off but admittedly it's frustrating when I hear some people got it covered and others can't. Oh well...

Oh hell no! LOL I bought the plugs as soon as I figured out where the noise came from quite a few months ago. But when I tried to have the dealership pay for them, they said no way.

I have an OR iForceMax Hybrid. I had the air dam removed when I purchased it from the dealer. (Why they put the dam on the OR hybrid and not other OR's? MPG?). I had not noticed any whistle over a number of driving conditions (close to 1000 miles) until this morning. There is a storm blowing in and some crosswinds. I hear a whistle at 30-40 MPH when the wind is blowing. Looking under the truck today to see if there are plugs where they removed the air dam.

Looked. No plugs present. Despite the dealer removing the dam. They did not put in any plugs. I may ask someone about it the next time I am in the dealership. Planning on plugging the holes.

FYI, I used plugs from Ace Hardware. They snap right in. Find them in the bulk bins. P/N 58138-D. When I removed and re-installed the air dam bolts I used 1/4" rubber flat washers to help keep the bolts from loosening.

They quoted you either the wrong part, or a set of 4.

Correct OEM part number is 90950-A1021
    MSRP is $3.76ea
Most online dealers have them at $2.60-$2.80 each
You need 8 in total, 4 for each arm (as stated previously)
$20.80 was my total to use the OEM part.

Hey @Smellme, you sure those are the ones you ordered, the 20mm/0.78”? A quick peek under the LCA and these look way too big for any of the holes underneath.

Edit, looked again and my truck already has the OE plugs in place. Had no idea…
