I was thinking 30+ gallons sourced from the Tundra. You are right a slightly larger tank wouldn't add much weight. I see someone psted about a 21 gallon tank. I still think Toyota would rather sell people a Tundra if range is an issue in the Tacoma.

I have 51 fill-ups for 12200 miles..all tracked in Fuelly. 21.4mpg in Fuelly and 21.5mpg showing on the dash. Most weekends I’m driving from sea level to 7000’ in winter conditions. No mpg concerns for me…it’s pretty much what was advertised.

Tundra tank in a Tacoma would be great. Almost 700 mi. of range would be amazing. Towing would make more sense as well.

just so I can gauge your experience to mine. Do you have the hybrid engine vs the 4turbo. And do you have a 4wd.
I’m indifferent on the engines. Though I don’t know much about hybrid maintenance if that is such a thing. I do like low end tq when pulling my boat. And 4wd is always mandatory on my trucks. Better to have and not need than need and not have. Or so they say. Plus I am always in 4hi when I launch and recover the skiff.

This would work great for me. Based on what I tow and how I drive. If only Toyota would listen to only me. :D But we know it’s a compromise with every truck. For what I gained in a full size there are just as many things that I miss from my mid size.

TRD Off Road, 4cyl turbo (not a hybrid). Engage 4WD for snow, mud when needed.

Thank you. That is the combo that I would most likely choose.

I'm up in Woodstock, GA. NW of the ATL. I get 19 mpg mixed driving, about the same when I haul myself up Interstate 575 at 75-80mph to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Highway mileage so far in the 2700 mi I have on the truck I get 21-22 mpg at 70 mph depending on terrain of course. I don't have a bed cover on the back yet but when I do I expect the mileage to jump 1-2 mpg on the hwy, esp. the flatlands of I85 on my way to VA to see family. I imagine you should get similar mileage there near the Golden Isles.

Having had a 3G and now a 4G the mileage I am getting tank to tank is not all that great a difference. The 3G presented about 350 miles upon a fill-up (average 19.8 MPG). The 4G after 4000 miles is presenting 330 miles on each fill-up (average 21.5 MPG). So about a gallon of gas difference in that measurement (with about 2.5 gallons and 45 miles of range in reserve to "empty"). Sure, I would like 400+ miles on each tank, but in reality I am getting gas every couple hundred miles anyway particularly after a couple of hours on the highway.

Kentucky. No real mods to hurt MPG. Added a hard bed cover (should actually help), removed the snow plow, stock tires inflated to 36 and checked all the time, usually drive solo. 50/50 driving on city and interstate. When on the interstate it is 75 - 78 mph. Other than driving 5 over the limit on the interstate my foot is not lead, just normal. Pre winter I was getting about 17.5 to 18.2. No where close to what some claim they get. During the winter with 240lbs of sand in the bed it was 15.0.

Honestly if 16 mpg is a deal breaker I would pass or maybe try to find one to rent for a tankful or two and see what you can get. I mean I LOVE the truck. I never bought it for the MPG and honestly never even looked at the MPG before buying as I knew I just wanted the truck. It is just annoying filling up a lot more than I was with the previous cars.

Also in Woodstock, GA and commute daily down to Buckhead. Commute can be stop and go or haul ass 7ph the whole way. My truck is a TRD Offroad with a 2” lift and 285/70-17. I’m averaging right about 17.5-18.5mpg over the past 2000 miles. Truck has 5200 miles on it now.

It's annoying, that's about all. Could have gone to a larger tank, toyota chose not to. They will offer a bigger tank in the future im sure.

If one were to get a larger tank from a Tundra or GX550 how would the fuel gauge and computer DTE respond to input from the new fuel level sensor?

I have a soft trifold and I didn’t notice any real difference with it on either.
