I have an update on my truck. The head gasket went, causing the engine to overheat and seize up completely. The whole cooling system needs to be replaced in addition to the engine, so that isn't going to be cheap. My clutch was also completely shot (not surprising at 125,000 miles and 10,000 miles of me grinding on it), so they are going to do that as well. For shits and giggles I am also going to have them do a full service on diffs, brakes and everything else so that she is totally good to go for the next few years while I am at pilot training. Its not gonna be cheap, but I'd rather do this than throw the truck away.

Feels weird just starting up the BS again...

Just found a scrape on my LCA! I guess the people hocking skids for them aren't totally out there! I had always thought they were kind of unnecessary.

I still think they are unnecessary for most of us. Look at the damage, it isn't really anything more than a scratch. My old truck had multiple hits on them, and I got skids and it looked the same on the skids. I am not sure it's worth the cost/weight/clearance reduction imo

Tis only a scratch. Your LCA is laughing at that one and asking if that's the best you can do.

    :poking:
I dont belive LCA skids are necessary. The LCAs are pretty stout and the skids only lessen the ground clearance.

Yeah fair point, a 1/4" of aluminum sticking off there would have scraped more. I'm not too fussed, just an observation while I was under there changing the oil.

Pretty sure that one happened on the Nelson Rollercoaster.

The real question: do we still fight about ABS guards? :D:rofl:

I'm team no LCA skid, hangs lower and more unsprung weight. That said, LCA's aren't hard to drag playing in the rocks. :bananadead:

Lots of plans, little money....
I usually run lca skids, biggest reason is for the flat bottom that slides over rocks better than the contours of the oem lca. Yes you lose ground clearance and hit them more often. But better than a hang up that ultimately puts crazy pressure on your cams. Also, more unsprung weight helps counter the higher up, sprung weight. It's minimal but on a crazy sloped shelf road... a little extra weight down low doesn't hurt. Just my 2 cents. If the lower clearance catches a rock at high speed.... it negates everything. Half a dozen of something or 6 of something else or some shit.... idk
