Not sure if u-all are aware of this - Toyota sells or shares your personal information (I would assume driving habits) to data miners (yes, insurance companies and who knows how many more industries). I can only wonder if you're paying for Toyota Connect and the data collected is greater. I logged onto the Toyo site (a few months back) and selected (under the privacy menu) "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information". Just as an fyi....

I get it, but in this case you can do something about it...

when setting up the app with the salesperson, he said "opt-out of that one" as we stepped through it. so at least he was watching out for that sort of thing.

FWIW, I just opted out, as well. Just so everyone understands, it's not just a quick check box to opt out. It's a short form that requires your name, addy, and phone number before submission.

It may not make things life changing-ly more awesome, but every little bit of annominity helps in an era of all-watching prying eyes. To each their own.

If someone wants to know I went to work, fine. If they want to know if I accelerated or turned a corner too fast, fine.

Last weekend, I turned down a country road my wife hadn’t been on before. She asked if we were going parking. I let her know we might be being tracked. Her response was “that’s OK. LET ‘em be jealous.”

For me, I'm hoping it will cut down on "extended warranty" junk mail I constantly get in the snail mail. I started getting crap mail the very next week after I purchased the truck...and am still getting today. I mean, they have to get my personal mailing address and year/make/model from someone. Got it from Toyota directly!

Do you realize automakers sell your “driving performance” information insurance companies? Look forward to rate increases if that’s your outlook!

I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean, and to a large extent is impossible because of the long ago established law for the cellular network providers.

Additionally, people forget or are daft to other ways not being tracked is hard to achieve. One's license plates subject them to the huge saturation for the ALPRs, payment cards, checks and cash create data and patterns many don't think about.

Upon actual ownership still at dealer I took Toyota's steps on the vehicle's dashboard sticker to disable that tracking but it didn't take long to see results just from the newly titled and registered vehicle.
