    Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Unfortunately it's because my 2020 4cy access cab shit the bed. Started with intermittent low oil pressure lights, leading to 0PSI on the oil pump. Dealer suggested engine replacement, as they have to take the whole engine out to replace the pump anyways, and based on some nasty noises I've gotten over the past few months, and evidence of metal in the oil. Oil pump came in at $5kish, replacement with an 88k engine at $10kish.

My question to you taco aficionados is, what is a reliable place to source a 2.7L 4cyl for a 2020?

I am going to be reaching out to some trusted mechanics to quote and do the work for me over the dealership, and I also plan to call some salvage places, but I'm doubtful I'll find the unicorn tacoma with only rear end damage that has a perfect engine.

I'm going to have the mechanics search for some engines, but as a newbie to this sort of stuff I'd really appreciate some guidance on a reputable place to look for a replacement.

Sorry if this is addressed already in a post somewhere, I've looked around but I'm still not super familiar with the site.

    Thanks

Maybe @Torspd has a motor laying around.

I was just thinking the same thing (mileage). Never heard of issues with oil pressure before.

Just a heads up but Toyota oil pressure lights don't come on until you have less than a quart of oil in the engine. If you ever see one come on stop driving immediately and get it to a mechanic to diagnose the problem.

Now that's out of the way I would suggest checking with LKQ, most likely that's one of the places an independent mechanic will be checking with anyway.

Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
Sorry for your bad luck. car-part dotcom or eBay. Many front-end collisions don't damage the actual engine.

It is VERY rare for a 2TR-FE to shait the bed that early!

I was watching oil levels like a hawk, and never once had low oil, but thanks for the info. Toyota service also had my truck for 2 weeks, saying they could assure me there were no oil pressure issues, until one cold morning they got all of the pressure warnings and 0PSI with full and fresh oil. No leaks.

I'll look into LKQ, thanks for the tip!

Right! That's part of the reason I got the 4banger. I hardly pull anything big but have a small boat and do enough tree work/woodworking, ice fishing, off roading, and dirt moving to warrant having a pickup so I opted for the engine that (I thought) would give me 350,000-400,000 miles with routine maintenance. I still feel like it's a fluke and I'm looking at getting a new base SR, that is if I can find one before the price goes up again. I'm taking the time to look into replacement engines because if prices do go up I'm not sinking over 40K into a base SR when I paid under $30k for the same thing brand new 4 years ago.
