Holler when you get there, I'd love to set up camp with or near the Tacoma guys since I'm coming solo. Wife and little one are going to come by Saturday for a short time but they're not camping. I'll bring that baby size total chaos shirt for you too.

Will do! We have some friends coming in from GA for the event with their 1 year old so will be camping with them in the "quiet" areas. Kids will be camping with us Friday night and possibly Saturday if it goes well.

Any of you guys ever dealt with a burned up neutral from a water heater? I don't have a clue what the issue is. House is only a year and a half old and everything was fine until yesterday.

Call the builder and they may come take care of that under their builders warranty. Sorry I can’t be more help than that. I’ll do some electrical but I don’t touch breaker boxes.

    Edit: who is the builder?

Could have been a loose wire or defective circuit breaker.

Is the conductor loose in the terminal? Looks like the insulation got cooked. If it’s loose it will arc. Just tug on the wire at the bend and see if it’s loose.

Another one on the loose wires train.

Since it started at the connection to the breaker, that's where your issue originated. Loose wires cause resistance, resistance = heat.

Counterintuitive, but over tightening can also cause this. If the electrician ran that neutral clamp down with an impact, the clamp can cut through part of the wire. Reducing the crossectional area of the wire with a partial cut, reduces the effective wire gauge, which undersize it for the circuit. That again creates more resistance and heat. The breaker may not trip because the amount of current is fine for the breaker, but far too much for your reduced wire crossection.

That's not a neutral, it's the 2nd leg of 220v. Looks a little thin 14ga, but may be just the pic.

Totally missed that, you're 100% correct.

The whole loose/damaged wire thing still applies though.

Not loose, that's the first thing I checked. Could be overly tight tho. I'll check it out.

Pretty sure it's 10ga by the looks of it. I've got someone coming out to check it out today. Don't want to mess with this myself.

The way I noticed something was wrong was a lack of hot water leading me to check the breaker and seeing that it was tripped. It then kept tripping over and over every time the water heater would come on. That led me to removing the panel cover and discovering the overheated wiring.

I left it for a few hours and then flipped the breaker back on to try and get some hot water so my gf could shower up. It worked fine for about an hour, made plenty of hot water again, then I shut the breaker off overnight.

Definitely strange. We've got another breaker that seems to trip itself randomly under very little load. It's the circuit that feeds the lights and outlets for two smaller bedrooms. I haven't been able to track down any reason for that one to trip but sometimes it does it 3 times a day, other times it'll go a month or more with no issues. Something funny is going on with the wiring in this house.
