Guess we are gonna find out if they are real Yota Pro’s or just throwing parts at things like 90% of the other shops.

I really don’t want to be the pessimist here, but I don’t think fuel injectors is gonna be the problem.

Since they are throwing both a direct and a port injector at it, I’m gonna agree.

I held off for 429 posts before chiming in, but I have to say - I can't help but think a lot of the runaround (and bullshit) you experienced was, at least in part, self-inflicted.

OP - You come across as a good-natured, comical, and reasonable person throughout your posts on this forum, and some the findings and drama are both interesting and entertaining!...But whenever you share screenshots of your conversations with corporate or quote your exchanges with the dealership, it starts making more sense why things have played out the way they have.

I'm no expert on communication, but coming from someone who has worked for several dealerships, I would strongly advise you do your best to maintain a level head and stop the name-calling. Those F-bombs and other insults throughout your emails with corporate (and dealerships) will live there forever.

I'm not saying it's right, but being cussed-out, name-called, and even threatened, will only make those corporate and dealership employees work just hard enough not to get fired by their bosses. Continuing to call them incompetent and aggressively rubbing things in their faces will only slow things down further.

Having just gone through a long and frustrating warranty claim myself, I can relate. It can be a HUGE time-suck. I truly hope you get your issues resolved!... However, I'm also eagerly awaiting a Part 2 to this story if/when we find out Yota Pros mis-diagnosed the issue but wants payment for their time and the parts they installed. :D:goingcrazy:

You aren't wrong. I tried to keep it professional and on the level early on but when it became apparent they were going to back the most insane story ever - without any other diagnostic work - I did let it hang out a little. Kinda got a case of, "nothing left to lose." Maybe that impacted this? Who knows?

I swear to God if this thread ends up being the result of nicked fuel line and spliced wire from your gas powered radio, we're gonna riot :crapstorm:

Electric radios have gotten so good, I can't imagine anyone installing a gas radio these days.

That would be like only owning a corded electric drill...

Yeah, but I don't need a Milwaukee hole hawg to install cabinet hardware (although it would be hilarious).

Just got off a call with Yota Pros.

New parts installed successfully. Old parts had no visible defect but the failure could be / probably is internal.
One successful test drive today with NO CYL 2 MISFIRE.

He wants to keep it all day tomorrow for a few more trips and try to get upwards of 50 to 60 miles on it to make sure that there is no issue coming back up. Remember, previous trips it happened 3 out of 4 trips. So he's not happy until he's had a few more trips on it with no issues.

If all goes well and everything is as we hope, I'll get it Thursday.

Fingers Crossed this is looking promising. Need to make an offering to Jobu that we have the solution.

Got the final call from Yota Pro's today.

Truck has over 100 miles on it since the fuel injector change out on CYL#2. No Misfire / Skipped Beats / Anything. No more Toyota A-Fibrillation. Engine is running smooth and no issues on the scan tool while driving and monitoring it.

I'll go pick it up tomorrow and pay the bill. Then I get to start working with Toyota to see if they'll pay some, all, none.

I'm betting that the fuel economy picks up some and maybe the shifting gears smooths out a little. It is a Tacoma after all so I'm not expecting a miracle. But maybe 5% to 10% improvement?

I've been holding off on any meaningful modifications for the truck becasue:
    1. I believe you know better what it needs by putting 10,000 miles on it
    and
    2. I didn't want to murky the warranty waters any. But now I see that there is no warranty to begin with I might be more tempted to do some stuff.

That's if the wife will feel comfortable riding in it again. If it's still forbidden from off road driving, then it goes to Big Al's Used Car Emporium.

Plot twist. OP works for this independent shop, and this was all to promote their business. :burp:

Hope the truck is actually fixed, OP. Not fun dealing with this kind of stuff. Cheers!

    I use this shop exclusively.
    Trust me, they are swamped.

It is my understanding that the owners are brothers who used to work as maintenance managers for Toyota dealers.
Probably got fed-up with corporate bs and decided to open up their own place - they're good people - good crew - plus
they do good work at a reasonable price. I won't let anyone else work on mine.

I believe it. My post was a joking sort of post. I'm a mechanic myself and work on mostly Toyota trucks. It's nice when you find a shop/mechanic that knows these trucks well.
