I'm about to have an open slot in the row of buttons under the a/c controls. Would like to add a USB charging port since my phone mount is right above it and I don't like the cable crossing over everything to make it to the cigarette lighter. I;ve serarched all over and haven't been able to find an insert that is a direct fit for those slots. Anyone aware of that? Not worried about the wiring, can just tap into the power from the cigarette lighter. Just want it to have a clean, factory look.

Careful because there are 2 sizes in that link. You want the 1.3x0.88 inch one to fit in the slot in the photo.

I was recently told that i could run a USB cable direct from the USB slot in the dash to my phone to charge.
    is that true or false?

Or you could replace your cigarette lighter socket with one of these:

Already have that. That's what I want to move so the cords aren;t running across the dash

    Technically true?
It will charge, but don’t expect it to be noticeable unless you’re taking a roadtrip and not using the phone for navigation. It’s a data transfer port. The manual doesn’t even list its output specs or call it a charging port, but does for the two in the center console: 2.1V 5A

I powered one always hot so I can charge anytime and the one with the voltage display ignition hot.
