I have a 2025 OR premium reserved with ETA in early April. My salesman shared the temporary VIN build sheet and it had San Diego as the point of assembly (not Baja California or Guadalajara). Has anyone else had their 4th gen Tacoma built in San Diego? I'm hoping this is true as the tariffs are supposed to kick in early April. TIA

What does your VIN start with? That will tell you the country it was built in.

There is no US production of Tacomas. It may arrive via the port of San Diego, but is not built in the US. VIN starts with 3TM then it is made in Baja. 3TY and it is made in Guanajuato.

If u already agreed on price and in writing … tariff shouldn’t impact it .

Baja, Mexico. Maybe San Diego is the port of entry.

San Diego is the port of entry for trucks manufactured in Baja, there is no Toyota factory in San Diego. This is a rumor from a salesman with poor reading comprehension

For anyone who is interested....Tacomas have not been built in CA since 2010 when production ceased at the Fremont plant. They have not been produced in the US since 2021 when production ceased at the San Antonio plant. Production for the Tacoma in the Baja plant started in 2004. Production in Guanajuato started in 2020.

I reside in the county and have not heard of a Toyota plant here. I have seen the lot at the port where they come in, or used to, if still being shipped in.

    For OP's sake, I hope you're right.

I run a business, and when we have products subject to tariffs, we do pass it on as a separate line item on the product affected. We don't change the unit price of the product.

I have to think a tariff is separate from the negotiated price of the truck. For example, if your new truck is delivered after sales taxes and/or registration fees are increased, your going to be on the hook for it.

At least for OP, there's a pause on automotive tariff, so he might get his truck without any complications.

Based on temporary VIN, it looks like the truck will be built next week. Once a final VIN is issued, I will reconfirm the OTD price

Any chance you knew your temporary VIN? I'm assuming the details of my Tacoma will no longer be visible in the Toyota configurator/VIN decoder using the temp VIN once a final VIN is issued.

I ordered my Tacoma the day after the election just to avoid any risk of a tariff. They are made in Mexico, suburbs of Tiajuana. You can look at the location on Google Earth. 25% is a huge chunk of $$$. We have lost all stability in trade. I also bought my wife a Kia EV9. It was made in Korea but they are opening a factory in Georgia. Through a lease loophole the leasing company gets the EV rebates but you pay the lower price. After 1 lease payment you buy out the lease. Korean cars have somehow voided the Tariff monster. It had a port of entry of Port Hueneme CA. I have been totally impressed with the Kia.

My former company has a plant on the harbor in San Diego, right under the Coronado bridge.

Toyota used to use the BNSF yard just north of us to stage and ship Tacomas coming up from Baja. There was a near constant flow of incoming trucks. It was always interesting to see the proportions of different variants on the lot.

They stopped using that yard off Harbor Drive a few years ago. Dunno where in SD county the trucks made in Baja are headed to now.
