Anyone want to guess what it will cost to have the old farm house tore down and removed....? Got a guy coming to give me quote Saturday morning. Keep in mind this is north Alabama and everything is cheaper. These are the best photos I got. We do have all the trees and bushes removed from the chimney side of the house. I hope to save the rock part of the chimney if it's stable enough.

    RE: Poll

Growing up poor conditions you to save everything.

Even things that are "almost" broken -- in the back of your mind is always "if things got real bad I could use this".
It doesn't seem to matter if one is relatively secure, the memory of hard times remains.

I have gotten better less bad over the years.

That said, most of the things in the archives have historical value, loosely at least. A lot of it I would gladly pass on to a good home but not a scrap yard.

Is it in the way for new construction?

Years ago there was an elderly lady over the hill who tore down and burned an entire barn all by herself, took her quite a while but she did it.

The barn and house were on opposite sides of the road, whenever you would drive by she would be lugging a piece of wood across the road to the burning barrel by the house.

It's not really in the way but the great granddaughter wanted to know where her bedroom was and was headed that way as soon as we got out of the truck. It's falling down and really kind of dangerous.

Ask the local fire department if they want a house for practice.

I would just wrap a cable around it and pull. But how it spontaneously combusted while coming down, no one knows.

I would pull it down with the tractor but I think the siding is made with asbestos. I don't really want to fool with that stuff or just bury it on the property.

Up here, asbestos remediation is highly regulated, I would guess if the whole house was sided would add at least $10,000+ to the project. I have no idea what it would cost down there.

I just hope it’s done right the first time, your demo person is legit and will act in your best interest and it’s at a price you can afford. Good luck

Good morning and Happy Friday everyone :hattip:

Yep, they looks like asbestos shingles.

They hold oil base paint well and will last forever, the only thing that will damage them is impact as they are brittle.
