2 shocks per wheel?

Seen a fb marketplace listing with a toyota pickup with 2 4600’s per rear wheel. Is there a benefit to this?

That's pretty old school, like stuff they used to do in the 80's and 90's. I think it was more of a fad and way for companies to sell more shocks. I wouldn't recommend keeping it like that unless it runs a really heavy load or gets thrown around hard offroad.

 

Its not mine ha I was just curious about it never seen that before.

There actually is a benefit to this: It keeps your wallet light!

 

There is a practical purpose to this kind of setup. Usually only needed on extreme off road rigs. The second shock is called the bypass shock. Basically it does nothing until you take a really big hit. It's tuned to be wide open during normal driving conditions and only come into play on extreme suspension travel. Allows you to run the coilover softer because you have a whole other shock to take over on the harder stuff.
