Those things are spendy, and from what I’ve been reading, don’t last long. Ordering 10 of them at $45 a pop is not very big brain for my cheap ass paint job. I got 2 orbitals and like 400 sheets of sand paper for like $130

    Sir,
Yes they are not cheap but I thought they lasted a long time.
It is your truck do as you please.
Just be very careful with the sandpaper and gel coat on the fiberglass‼️
Being I’m guessing that it wasn’t painted before being wrapped.
I would highly suggest you go speak to a couple of shops to get their suggestion… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve used the decal stripper wheel from 3m, thing works great.
They are kinda spendy and create a mess.
    But friggin works.

They last longer than the off brand ones or any of the “vented” wheels.
I did these two stripes, about 6ft square. It went from maybe 4” to 3.7”
I wouldn’t want to do a whole car by any means, but getting the patches here and there that you can’t get off would be good.
Your roof may be a too much time and at least one wheel I’d guess. That would probably be better to sand I’d think since your painting anyhow.
But idk on grit that would resist clogging with the wrap but not be too aggressive.

5 hours with an orbital and 60grit later. No more vinyl left on the truck.

Dropping the truck off Thursday at the paint shop. He’s going to do some light body work, primer and block the truck, then paint it in a shade of coyote brown.

only thing I gotta do before I drop it off is remove the door handles, tailgate handles, and side mirrors. Everything else is solid and good to go.

you can get a non-name brand one too. My body shop friend told me they are called Eraser wheels

I would have also tried a paint stripper disc. Supposed to take paint off, but not grind like flap discs or grinder wheels. Also better than a wire wheel.
Different colors are different abrasions. Looks like this:

Also if you guys havent heard/used before, check out Benchmark Abrasives. Usually cheaper than the normal Amazon junk, but made in the USA (they also sell on amazon, but their site is good too). Its one of those cool companies that gives you a sticker or candy in your order.

They give away packs of flap discs all the time too! I got about a lifetime supply (which just means a few packs for me; I don't do any metal fab stuff) a few years back. Basically just had to provide an email and pay shipping. The have some quality stuff.

Yeah the 3m stuff worked, I bought 3 discs of it, it just took way too long to remove a tiny area, and it chewed through that wheel pretty quick. Was just as easy to keep sanding.

did your painter gasp when he saw that ? what is he going to do to seal the bare metal before primer ? he better be able to provide you a solid answer that includes more than just primer or you’ll have metal cancer real quick under that new paint job…

What are you supposed to do? I would imagine a good etching primer would do the trick. But I don’t know anything about paint or paint prep.

nope, although self etching is a good diy spray can trick it needs to be meticulously cleaned and then sprayed with an epoxy sealer / primer then any minor body work then regular primer to block it out.

don’t limit yourself to those draw down sheets, any color you see on any other vehicle can be matched ie: a lot of people love the Audi nardo grey or the similar dodge grey. Take a look around for the shade of brown you want on other vehicles or do your Toyota a favor and go with the Toyota quicksand or that damn truck and karma might kick your ass again

Yeah. I'd pick either a Toyota/Lexus or a GM color personally.
