Yea I would say he was in a bit of a pickle. He bought with intentions to keep and use for his small construction business but it was too small and his family couldn’t fit in it either so he bought a tundra and needed to let go of this one asap.

JT VIN means built in Japan. Much better than any North American built model...

    So, riddle me this.
Are people willing to buy a 1st gens in any condition?
If so, I will trade somebody for a 4dr second gen straight across, preferably in white?

Seems like it. The prices of first gens in Tucson is rediculaus, usually they are in terrible shape.

Yeah that's what I was thinking how's that better? My truck was made at the NUMMI plant and they had 6 yrs experience building Tacomas when my truck rolled off the line by american workers.

Aside from the bodywork I started, mine is in pretty good shape, yet I've never
had an offer. I thought about putting a for sale sign on it and asking some crazy price to see
    who bites.

For comedy, go check out Tacomas on FB marketplace. Salvaged title first gens with 300k miles for 9-12 grand.

My best guess/opinion is that it’s a similar trend to what GenX did to the prices on the 70s & 80s pick-ups and 4Runners. I’m GenY and grew up with the 1st gen being the coolest trucks on the road. Now in my 30s with a little extra pocket change I wanted to secure my “classic” truck now while there are still some good ones around and before the prices get crazy.

3rz to 2Rz bebuilt block and new heads
If your up to doing a head gasket on 2rz/3rz......you can get em in the 2K ~ 3K zone

just be careful to not get one of these.....without the massive discount

This block/head combo is not very forgiving......very little over heating, and its a done deal

Maybe in California. Here in Wisconsin most go for $5k - $8k and are rusty.

What they’re listed for and what they sell for are 2 different things - when I was looking for my 4runner I waited for months while prices were increasing around ‘21 and there were a fair number of good deals but they’d be gone that day or the next day - got to have cash in hand and the ability to drop everything and head to where the deal’s at. Otherwise all that’s left are the overpriced copium ads that don’t go anywhere forever.

What's crazy to me is the price that Prerunner (2WD) owners try to snag, especially when their truck has a slushbox auto transmission too. Just saw a 2000 Xtracab Prerunner (auto transmission, 180k miles) on marketplace and the seller thinks he'll get $12,000. That's absurb

Its not just this truck, any car produced until 2000 now its almost 25 years old. A classic car is considered 20 years or more.

I can't stand Offer up. As a seller they require a fee and still the app is dog shit.

I’ve never paid a fee - are you shipping things through them? I’ve never paid / received payment through the app.

    Yes, manual everything...even mirrors...
It really is insane, especially if you're buying in CA. I got REALLY lucky finding my regular cab in Reno on CL after sitting in Scheels super pissed I lost a bidding war on BAT for another Taco. Got a note on the windshield the other day offering me 20k lol.

Honestly not worth it when new trucks are insanely priced, difficult to work on in comparison, and built to take a shit after a few years. I will never sell this thing unless its some ridiculous offer where I could buy another one for top dollar and still pocket a good amount of cash.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Kinda just depends how nice you want it, plenty for sale in the inland northwest here for 6k and below in pretty decent shape with high miles.

Tacomas were built in Japan? News to me.

Any pix of that VIN or the full string? It would be interesting to look up.
