Good morning everyone and welcome to the weekend :hattip:

I’m fixing to change out a toilet today and I thought I should check with our resident expert @Delta09 . Anyone else feel free to weigh in.

Going to Lowes, any particular brand? Do you use wax or rubber rings? I’ll pick up new bolts, washers and nuts. Floor is level and not built up. Feed line is new and I have wrenches. I’ve got gloves. What am I missing?

Reason for the replacement - after charging all the innards it’s still running every 1/2 hour or so for a few seconds. It’s a really old toilet and the components I used weren’t necessarily the greatest fit.

    Appreciate any and all responses.

Good morning everyone. Rain on tap down here today.

I agree with @Tacoma Mike, get the tall one. I’ve replaced 3 old ones at my house with the aqua source tall ones from Lowe’s. They have been installed about 3 years now, no issues. A new wax ring and mounting bolts were included in the kit.

Agree with Mike & Blevin, get a tall one.:thumbsup:

Not a bad idea to read some reviews first, some models may flush better than others, early high efficiency toilets could be pretty bad, I believe the designs have matured by now.

American Standard Vormax. Chair height and you can’t clog that thing. The design really keeps the bowl clean when you flush. I use foam rubber rings instead of the wax one.

by old are you looking at a round bowl or elongated bowl
elongated are about 3" longer front to back than round making problem in some locations
they make compact elongated units that have the more oval bowl but are about the same footprint of a round but the options are fewer

If you’ll notice the pipe threader came with everything I needed except the small handle for the 1/4” die and the 3/8” die.

I guarantee you the 3/8” die is in the handle somewhere. I ask my buddy I bought it from and he can’t find it anywhere.

With spring cleaning in full effect I said to myself yesterday why not stop by the pawn shop to accumulate more stuff.

Was getting ready to walk out when I saw this combo. I took it to the counter and ask the dude how much cash? He said $35.

I said the cutter is missing the cutter wheels and all I need is the handle.

    The die is 3/4”.

He said how about I sell you the handle for $30 and you take the rest?

Deal. Now I need to find a 3/8” die.

Well, we’ve had the piece of countertop at work for 20+ years and the microwave was in the shop when we moved in, so……I guess mine :pout:

Yet you have a spring cleaning poll and you salvage a 20 year old piece of countertop!
But, you did repurpose a microwave.. LOL

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses!
Can’t post that without disclosing said piece of equipment :D

I picked up an AS that came with all the fixings - wax ring, bolts :spending:

Verified all components were there and in good order. Started to get the old one out and found a suspicious lag bolt on the left side:
    IMG_8384.jpg

In for a penny, got the old one out to find the reason the lag bolt was used:
    IMG_8386.jpg

I’ve replaced toilets before but never the flange ring.. Anyone got tips?

Edit. Seems like the iron flange was leaded in… Been digging at it and it’s soft where it meets the pipe. I’ll keep digging.

I YT and found press in flanges. The video I saw was nicely raised to get an oscillating blade under it- no such luck for me…

Excellent! Thanks!! I’m wondering if I could use half on the missing side and have the wax ring make up the difference.

I’m not sure my waste pipe has that nice cap to it and it’s in there solidly.

Found two pieces of particle board in operation spring clean and got them out of the way and on to the office wall.
