LC build update.

Triple-locked 02 model LC is on the way.
Last weekend, I found an Eaton kit for sale within driving distance to pick it up.
This rear locker will accompany the Front Harrop eLocker I bought in 2020.
The part number is HAR-79.5 14213-1
The Yukon Bearing Kit contains Koyo bearings and seals.
The wiring kit is like the one I installed from Harrop in 2020.

The owner had bought $5k in parts and lockers to build out his 100 series. Then, the 100 was totaled by someone in a Corvette before these could be installed.

I picked it up for $500. The plan is to take the rear axle and dif out of the LX470 and take it to one of my bud's shop in Hot Springs for eLocker installation.

The LC100 rear axle bearings are shot. This will be a quick diff swap.

 

As far as I know this x-axis bushing bs started with the forged arms. My tubular arms on my 04 have 3x the mileage with no issues.

I contacted SPC but since they were sold under Mevotech on rockauto I’m probably not getting anywhere with them. Plus I wouldn’t put a new set on the truck anyway.

Drove up to Crystal Lake from our place this afternoon, about a 35 min drive then have to hike to the lake. Was hoping to find snow but just patchy at lake level. Between Sofia having a meltdown over refusing to walk 1/2 mile into the hike and then following the wrong trail for another half mile this was as close as we got…next time

 

Why does it seem like everyone wants to boost their trucks all the sudden?

Was it always like this and I just wasn't paying attention?

 

It's been pretty constant. The technology just wasn't always cheap enough. I know a lot of people still think the haltech is too expensive but for how much control and stability you get from it I really don't think the $2,000 is too steep. And there are cheaper options too they're just much more DIY and I wouldn't really want to rely on them for a truck that I take to the middle of nowhere. When even the Nissan Altima you can finance for pocket change has over 275 horsepower you look at these trucks that are fairly valuable and wonder why they're so weak

 

Warmed up enough here in PA to put the Sequoia away for the season, pulled the M3 out of storage.

 

I'm currently daydreaming about an EV-swapped 5-lug. Probably a basic Leaf swap (keeping the stock suspension and axles) rather than the full Tesla rear assembly swap everyone was drooling over a few years ago. Seems fun and practical if you consider spending $20k-30k to cut up two good vehicles to make one "usable but has its quirks" vehicle to be practical.

 

AEM makes conversion kits to adapt to the Tesla modules

 

My complaint with the Tesla swap (this one, in case anyone doesn't know about it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tesla-swapped-2wd-1st-gen-build.807147/) is mostly that it makes the truck wider.

A Tesla motor in the engine bay connected to the factory axle would be fine by me. I'd also be fine with any other drive unit/direct-drive axle that fits without altering the bed or widening the truck. I only mentioned Leaf specifically because there seems to be lots of info available on Leaf swaps, and Leafs are common and easy to get.

 

We had the same outcome this week. We took Olivia sledding and she was having nun of it.

 

I did slip him a nice bonus that would cover something like that. What goes around comes around.

 

This afternoon's project. Now I need to clean it up and get it down to my bud in Hot Springs. I'm rolling it around on some HF furnature dollys.

 

Gotcha. I'd say Tesla battery modules are the best for these conversions however

"Best" in what sense? I haven't dug into battery options at all.

Drew had to put half of the battery pack in the bed because he got an extended-range Tesla pack. That's another thing I wouldn't want to do. I'd want to keep the bed usable.

He was aiming for 200mi range. I think 75-100mi would be plenty for me, even 50 might be livable, so maybe I could still use a smaller Tesla pack and fit it under the bed?

 

Dont they make EV motors that can bolt up to the original transmission
