Looking at two 2.5 gen double cabs 4x4 Taco’s cant decide which one and both are 25k and ZERO rust cause i’m in the southwest.

2015 TRD OR mgm 107k miles 1-owner carfax. Icon suspension, new Falken tires and method wheels. Pretty clean inside and out, paint is faded on hood and roof but dealer would be fixing that for free.

2014 TX Baja white 118k miles 2 owners, all stock has Leer shell on top. Extremely clean almost mint condition inside and out only a couple rock chips. Has the cool rubber floors too.

I want the Baja but I keep seeing horror stories on the peeling paint plague. I don’t see any other peeling spots other than a small spot in the fuel cap door. Should I just save the headache and go with the 2015? This truck would serve me for at least next 7 years

I want to see this dealer fixed paint job finished product before I would even consider it. The fix for faded MGM paint is repainting. 100% they are going to half ass that job.

Yep. Then it would start peeling soon after because they didn't prep properly. I would get the white truck but I have a thing for the white even with the paint issues which started appearing on my truck (2012).
Plus, the white truck is unmolested, always a plus, and it's got a cap.

I say the 2015 only because those are both great options and I like the color better than that white. That’s 100% just personal preference though and financially the bone stock Baja is almost certainly the better option. Good luck! I don’t think you can make a wrong choice here.

I’d go with the TRD OR. The dealership is probably going to wipe on some cheap ceramic coat to hide the failing clear.

I’d probably budget for some paintwork

The white Baja will suffer from super white paint peel. So pick your poison?

The 2015 looks like it’s already had some paint work on those side doors, the side tone of the front and rear doors is off. Either way you may need to do some paint repair down the road on either truck.
I would stick with the stock 2014, it looks like a nice clean truck. I have regretted buying vehicles that were modified in the past.

Not all Super Whites have the paint problem. My 2015 shows no sign of the peeling problem.
Definitely consider stock vs modified. What are you looking to do with the truck? Do you want to lift it or leave it as is?

Leave it as is, not a huge fan of aftermarket lifts and suspension. Just leave it as is, with the TRD suspension. is the peeling paint problem factory specific?

My 2013 super-white has minor paints peels in the egine bay, around window frames and door jams. My truck has spent a lot of time around chemical plant fall out and Florida 100+ temps & sun.

But I just rolled over 205K and still going strong! (100% stock)

2014 if it was me. 3rd gens assembled in certain plants had the white paint failure. Toyota has a campaign to fix them. Although some 2nd gens should have been included too. You might be fine with yours but YMMV. Enjoy your truck either way.

The Baja was made in the US probably at the Texas plant, can it still be under that recall?

No, the campaign only applies to the 3rd gens at the moment. Almost all were assembled in Mexico. My 2020 Tacoma with 040 Super White was built in Texas too, the last year being 2021 before all production (except for the Pro, I think) moved to Mexico. Some 2nd gens have been suffering with the paint peel too but NOT covered by Toyota so far.

@lambda2145 - interested in a <100k 2015 with TRD supercharger and other upgrades? Take a look at my signature for some details on what it has.

Garage kept its entire life, no paint issues, frame is super clean. Barely driven in winter in CO so it sees road salt/spray 2-3 times a year and is immediately washed off.
