Got the roof and windshield portions of the cage done, and tied into the in-cab section through the roof. I know it's not everyone's preferred flavor, but the truck does have to do more the just the fast stuff.

Just got back from the Overland South event, here in Charleston, SC where I got to really try the truck out for the first time. The comp course they built was more crawler oriented, but great fun none the less, an I was able to "log hop" some sections. Also took a tie for first place on the RTI competition. Perfect score of 1000, tied with a very large gladiator on tons. Next highest score was ~750 with a good number of folks hitting the 600s. Mid travel Tacomas are in the 500 range for reference.

The beautiful nature reserve that it's held on has about a mile long section where I was able to go a bit faster over some rough stuff. Kept it to about 65 mph because we only had about 2 feet on each side before the trees started. Holes were about a foot deep. Truck floated over everything and the rear was absolutely planted. Was really enjoyable being able to start to learn the new handling. Characteristics. The rears need a small valving adjustment, and the fronts need a hair more I think, but I'm going to get some more test miles on It before tearing it all apart.

Had a little more flex left front and rear, but I had already his the max score on the ramp at this point

I'm running the 25 gal auxiliary tank from JD Fab with the OEM tank giving me 46 gals total. I can refill the OEM tank on the fly no need to pullover. I just passed smog no problems.

Yes! I'll keep you posted when they release the dates for the fall event. Really awesome crowd. Probably 300-400 people I'd guess. Some good sponsors, great non-wheeling events during the days, and the property is gorgeous. Ive been chatting with the course builder and the event manager, and I thing we've got the all clear to build a jump at the next event.

We could be in for a major change in California if they pass the Transportation Freedom act. CARB could very well be going away and no more smog testing period. California will have to follow the Federal laws that will apply to all states. This bill is being supported by both Republicans and Democrats and even Newsom has said CARB has run its course. The bill still needs to be voted on by both the House and Senate that will probably be this coming November.
    :fingerscrossed:
This guy @DizzllinMotion on YouTube is following this bill and has a lot of videos talking about how and what it covers. Could very well make California a bit more livable for us all.

That would be awesome to have a little whoop course or some nice table top style jumps, not just a vertical dirt pile.

Congrats as well! You deserve it

The woops may have to be naturally occuring, but I think there's a tabletop or two, or at minimum a wedge with a flat landing in our future. There's a power line trail on-property that's super long. If it's dry, it'd be a fantastic fast course that we can probably get some one-way signs on for safety, but if it's wet, it's a mud bog.

The power line trail is where it's at. I'd sign a waiver and have some fun.

My goal was to keep up with my friends' raptors(gen 3), that's the performance from suspension I want and still retain the SP camper without cutting into bed (way too much dust). Right now pretty basic stuff on the truck, I was planning on doing a jd lower pivot and keep rest of it as is up front. I wasn't sure about the rear. I am staying at 33' tires, not going for 35'.

Would SUA reduce ground clearance? that was my impression, but love to hear the opinions on this.

Yes, I will give revalve a try first see where that takes me. I'd love to take a ride in someone's SUA setup. I just want to keep up with friends' raptor on high speed stuff. With the smaller width tacoma, I am can keep up or ahead for tight technical trails.

if you add suspension to keep up with a raptor you’re gonna end up the same width anyways.

    Debatable imo.

If you’ve followed Michael Allen’s truck at all. That thing would beat the snot out of a raptor with a +1 front.

Travel is only a very small piece of the puzzle.

170-190 is about right with the stock taco. We carry fivers, usually two. I would consider a 10 gallon cell with a transfer pump before full fuel cell replacement in Cali.
