Thanks, I know the TRD lid is only cosmetic, just something I want (I know I'm vain when it comes to that kind of stuff, lol). I'm also aware of the risk of dirtying the MAF if oiled too heavily. I was just wondering if the TRD lid fits the regular stock airbox and if the air flow accelerator is needed if I also am buying the TRD lid, or if it's built in already.

Not sure about TRD lid on oem box. Accelerator is NOT part of the lid and will need to be purchased separately.

Reminds me of when I had the dealer install the Honda "Power Up" kit on my 450R.
Consisted of a cam and some exhaust bits and pieces, etc.

When they got done installing it, I swung by to pick it up, and the parts guy (my buddy) told me to take it for a rip.
While watching me take off into the woods, my wife asked my buddy the parts guy if I would be able to tell the difference.
His answer was "I doubt it"

I cut off the resonator on the trd intake instead of paying $200 for the HPS pipe.

Yes, the upper TRD portion of the air intake kit interfaces with the stock, lower portion of the box that the filter sits in. You will need to pull out the lower portion of the box to replace the stock air accelerator with the one that comes with the TRD kit.

It roars! No noticeable change in performance.

Just following up, not trying to beat a dead horse here. But I figured it would be helpful for the next person who searches, if I added my experience and some part numbers.

    I ended up installing:

    - Toyota TRD Upper Airbox- Part Number: PTR03-35160-AA. This is a direct replacement for the stock upper airbox and doesn't do anything extra except look cool.

    - Toyota Intake Flow Accelerator- Part Number: PTR03-35160-AE. This easily replaces the stock part, and installs very easily.

    - Toyota TRD Air Filter- Part Number: PTR03-34140. Drop in replacement for the stock filter.

    - K&N Performance Air Intake tube: Part Number: 57-9039. This was supposed to be an exact fit, but was a little long, I ended up having to cut about an inch off of it (at the airbox end). I tried it with both the TRD and the stock upper airbox, and it was too long for both, so it wasn't a difference between those.

All in all, I don't know that any of it helps with any noticeable hp gains, and I haven't had it long enough to notice any increase in fuel mileage. But it does effect the sound of my TRD cat-back, and it sounds perfect when you get on the throttle. Not obnoxiously loud at all, but definitely sounds nice.

I would strongly recommend throwing that TRD oiled garbage filter into the trash.

I was a believer of oiled filters for years until i discovered a fine layer of dust in my intake tube. Went back to paper and no issues.

On top of all that, TRD filters adds zero performance gains, except for some minor whistling noises.

    Yep.

Aftermarket intakes and exhaust do absolutely nothing on modern vehicles. Well they do add cool noises but thats it.

Ive got poor mans TRD intake with OEM paper filter and Borla S-type cat back. 6 years later still love the sounds they make.

So the trd intake lid will work with the stock intake tube? Meaning if I just wanted to replace the lid for looks it would fit?

Yeah, it’s exactly the same other than the red TRD.

Yup, that’s the only reason I added them. Just trying to get exactly the sound I wanted. Not trying to make it sound like a V8, so I didn’t want it loud, just a little bark when I get on it.

I’m aware of the risks, just thought I’d try it out. I’ll keep an eye on the dust and oil gettin mg by it.
